Four PhD journeys, one shared mission: turning data into discoveries that matter. Congratulations to Þjóðbjörg, Hildur, Ástrós and Brynja on outstanding research and well-deserved milestones having just recently completed their PhDs at Amgen deCODE Genetics.
Þjóðbjörg Eiríksdóttir holds a BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Iceland (2017) and an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from ETH Zurich (2019). She joined Amgen deCODE Genetics in 2019, where her PhD research focused on predicting disease using large-scale proteomics data with real-world clinical relevance.
Hildur Margrét Ægisdóttir graduated as a medical doctor in 2015. She joined Amgen deCODE Genetics in 2018 and began PhD studies in 2020 on genetics of heart rhythm disorders and syncope. She defended her thesis on 12 December. Supervised by Davíð Arnar and Hilma Hólm.
Ástrós Th. Skúladóttir earned a BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (University of Iceland, 2014) and worked at Amgen deCODE Genetics on CNS movement-disorder phenotypes. She completed an MSc on repeat disorders, started a PhD in 2023 on genetics and biomarkers of Parkinson’s disease and is now dermatology project leader.
Brynja Sigurpálsdóttir studied Biomedical Engineering at Reykjavík University, where an opportunity to work on a project with Amgen deCODE Genetics sparked an interest in bioinformatics. She earned an MSc in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at ETH Zurich, then joined Amgen deCODE Genetics and pursued a PhD on long-read DNA methylation sequencing analysis.
