Congratulations to the D-Orbit team and all the project partners on this outstanding achievement.
This milestone is a great example of the value created by combining our complementary expertise. Together, we're turning a shared vision into real capabilities that will help shape the next generation of connected space services.
On 10 June 2026, our Space Cloud Business Unit established a live SSH session with our fourth orbiting Intelligent Network Node — using an Addvalue radio over the Viasat constellation.
This is not an incremental update. Spacecraft hosting our on-board computers are no longer isolated assets: they are now part of a persistent, interconnected orbital computing fabric.
During the same session, the team downloaded a 5 MB payload image in less than four minutes over an always-connected channel. What would normally require multiple ground-station passes over several hours was accomplished in a single, continuous session.
Why this matters:
🔹 Satellites will increasingly operate as connected edge-computing platforms — with low-latency access and continuous connectivity through commercial and other constellations. This demonstration is a concrete example of what that future looks like in practice.
🔹 These results advance the foundation we are building for continuous data exchange between spacecraft, distributed computing in orbit, and integration with third-party constellations — reducing reliance on ground-station windows.
This infrastructure is designed to let partners and service providers build, brand, and operate their own services on top of our growing on-orbit capabilities. AI-eXpress, a solution co-funded by the ESA - European Space Agency Incubed programme, led by Planetek Italia in partnership with D-Orbit and AIKO - Infinite ways to autonomy, is already doing this by running on the Space Cloud infrastructure that uses AI and Blockchain in Space to enhance satellite reactivity, responsiveness, and low-latency information delivery.
This is the model that we believe will scale the space economy: open infrastructure that empowers an ecosystem of service providers, each delivering unique value to their own customers.
