Europe's future in-space economy is taking shape — and Planetek Italia is proud to be part of the journey.
This month, we are participating in two important events marking the launch of the ISOS4I (In-Space Operations and Services for Infrastructure) Pilot Mission, a key step towards establishing a future European infrastructure for in-space services.
🚀 Today, 3 June, at the ISOS4I Project Launch Event in Brussels hosted by HaDEA we present JANUS (Joint Architecture for Novel, Universal satAPPs), Planetek Italia's contribution to one of the most ambitious European initiatives in the space sector.
🚀 On 10 June at hashtag 2026, the official ISOS Award Ceremony will take place with the European Commission and leading industrial and research organisations celebrating the start of the ISOS4I Pilot Mission.
As one of the six Horizon Europe projects selected for ISOS4I, JANUS is developing the next generation of satAPPs: modular, plug-and-play applications designed to make satellites more autonomous, resilient and service-oriented. Through advanced capabilities in cognitive computing, autonomous orchestration, cybersecurity and distributed intelligence, JANUS aims to transform satellites from standalone assets into intelligent service nodes capable of supporting a wide range of in-space operations.
The JANUS SynApps portfolio comprises:
🚀 CogniAPP, a cognitive HPC/edge computing satAPP that “uberises” space computing through dynamic workload placement across onboard and ground assets;
🚀 ResiAPP, a resilient data exchange satAPP embedding zerotrust networking, graceful degradation, and quantum-resistant cryptography;
🚀 OrchestrAPP-Core, an autonomy and task orchestration satAPP enabling policy-aware, explainable decision-making;
🚀 and OrchestrAPP-HDI, a distributed hybrid cognitive infrastructure satAPP supporting cooperative cognition and scalable resource sharing.
Together, they transform satellites into autonomous service nodes capable of re-use, reconfiguration, and multi-purpose operations, directly contributing to EU non-dependence, resilience, and competitiveness.
The project contributes to the wider In-Space Operations and Services (ISOS) programme, a strategic European flagship initiative led by the European Commission (DG DEFIS) and HaDEA to strengthen Europe's autonomous capabilities in in-orbit servicing, logistics and space robotics.
We are excited to work alongside outstanding European partners to help build a more sustainable, resilient and sovereign space ecosystem — one that will enable Europe not only to operate in space, but to truly Act in Space by 2030.
🚀 The future of in-space services starts now.
