Il 17–18 settembre, il progetto Book a Scientist — una collaborazione tra Festival Transart e Eurac Research Center for Advanced Studies - Eurac Research — porta la ricerca fuori dalla bolla accademica e dentro la vita quotidiana, in case private in tutto l’Alto Adige.
Basato su un format ideato dagli artisti svizzeri Caroline Barneaud e Stefan Kaegi (Rimini Protokoll), ogni incontro prende forma attraverso domande, spunti, giochi ed elementi semplici pensati per attivare il dialogo sulle urgenze del nostro presente: clima, energia, salute, migrazione, diritti, tecnologie emergenti, città e trasformazione sociale.

Am 17.–18. September bringt das Projekt Book a Scientist — eine Zusammenarbeit zwischen Festival Transart und Eurac Research Center for Advanced Studies - Eurac Research — Wissenschaft aus der akademischen Welt heraus und in den Alltag, in private Haushalte in ganz Südtirol.
Basierend auf einem Format der Schweizer Künstler:innen Caroline Barneaud und Stefan Kaegi (Rimini Protokoll) entstehen Begegnungen durch Fragen, Impulse, Spiele und einfache Gesprächsanregungen, die den Dialog über die drängenden Themen unserer Zeit fördern: Klima, Energie, Gesundheit, Migration, Rechte, neue Technologien, Städte und gesellschaftlicher Wandel.

Tomorrow at Free University of Bozen-Bolzano!

Nico Stehr is a German sociologist and pioneering scholar who coined the term “knowledge society,” and he is the Distinguished Global Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies at Eurac Research .

This week he will be in South Tyrol to deliver a lecture at the Faculty of Design and Art - Free University of Bozen-Bolzano on Wednesday, May 6.

All those interested are warmly invited to attend. Opening remarks will be given by our sociologist Christoph Kircher.

Ihr arbeitet direkt mit unseren Forscher*innen an Projekten mit Wirkung. Ihr könnt eure eigenen Ideen und Erfahrungen einbringen und unterstützt uns bei der Organisation von Workshops und Konferenzen, bei Recherche und Analysen, in der Kommunikation an die Öffentlichkeit oder bei der Durchführung und Auswertung von Interviews und Erhebungen. Kurzum: ihr seid wichtiger Teil eines motivierten und unterstützenden Forschungsteams!

Wir sind Politikwissenschaftler*innen, Wirtschaftswissenschaftler*innen, Soziolog*innen und Philosoph*innen am Center for Advanced Studies von Eurac Research in Bozen. La sicurezza è anche una questione di percezione 🛡️🏙️🧐

Sorveglianza, raccolta di dati e presenza visibile delle forze armate nello spazio pubblico sono fenomeni sempre più quotidiani. Allo stesso tempo, il crescente senso di diffuso nella popolazione spesso non trova corrispondenza nella reale incidenza di fatti criminali, sebbene influenzi in modo significativo le decisioni politiche e il dibattito pubblico. Tuttavia, misure di sicurezza rafforzate non portano automaticamente a una maggiore percezione di sicurezza, ma rischiano di limitare le di alcune persone, perché la sicurezza non è neutrale e le politiche di sicurezza colpiscono alcuni gruppi più di altri.

La nostra conferenza “La negli spazi urbani” ha riunito lunedì scorso prospettive diverse provenienti dalle scienze sociali, dal diritto, dall’amministrazione, dai media e dalla psicologia. Dalla discussione è emerso chiaramente che una città viva e vissuta è una città sicura.

👏 Un grande grazie agli esperti e alle esperte che hanno animato la nostra discussione: Susanne Krasmann, Matteo Mazziotti di Celso, Stefania Baroncelli, Philipp Bologna, Nicola Canestrini e Francesca Schir. Tutti e tutte ci hanno offerto, da differenti punti di vista, numerosi spunti di riflessione ed esempi illuminanti. Un sentito ringraziamento anche a tutte le persone che hanno partecipato al nostro evento e che hanno contribuito in modo critico e costruttivo alla discussione!

Sicherheit ist auch eine Frage von Wahrnehmung 🛡️🏙️🧐

Überwachung, Datensammlung und die sichtbare Präsenz von Streitkräften im öffentlichen Raum nimmt zu. Ein wachsendes Gefühl von steht dabei oft nicht im Verhältnis zur tatsächlichen Kriminalitätsentwicklung, beeinflusst aber maßgeblich politische Entscheidungen und Debatten. Doch mehr Maßnahmen bedeuten nicht automatisch mehr – vor allem nicht für alle, denn Sicherheit ist nicht neutral und sicherheitspolitische Maßnahmen betreffen bestimmte Gruppen mehr als andere.

Unsere Tagung „ in urbanen Räumen“ hat am Montag unterschiedliche Perspektiven aus Sozialwissenschaften, Recht, Verwaltung, Medien und Psychologie zusammengebracht.

is entering the clinic. But who's making the decisions? 🏥🩺

At the 3rd edition of the , we explored how artificial intelligence is reshaping decision-making in , and where its limits should lie.

Sally Wyatt, Professor of Digital Cultures at Maastricht University, opened the discussion with a critical reminder: not everything that matters in medicine can be measured or captured by AI. Health encompasses more than measurable values and systems often miss precisely those human signals that matter most in clinical practice. Her perspective highlighted that AI is not just a technical tool, but something that actively shapes how we define health, knowledge, and care.

Deborah Mascalzoni, Group Leader at Eurac Research‘s Institute for Biomedicine and Associate Professor of Biomedical Ethics at Uppsala University grounded the conversation in biomedical . AI supports decisions, but responsibility remains with the physician. In practice, this creates a shared space: algorithms provide recommendations, yet diagnosis and treatment decisions stay human.

At the same time, new grey areas are emerging. When AI becomes embedded in medical guidelines, do clinicians still feel free to deviate, or does the system subtly steer their ?

Another critical issue is data. Many used today are not sufficiently representative, which can translate into real risks for underrepresented groups. In some cases, limited data diversity already constrains how well therapies can be tailored to certain populations. And yet, the potential is significant. Especially in , AI is already helping to analyse complex genetic and clinical data, enabling more targeted therapies, faster decisions, and better monitoring.

To ensure AI serves people, not the other way around, we need clear rules, strong data protection, transparency and ethical oversight. Ultimately, the use of health data must be guided not only by what is possible, but by what creates real public value.
