A composite nonwoven is a multi-layer structure made by 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐰𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭. These layers can be produced using different processes, such as spunbond, meltblown, carded or airlaid, and then bonded together.

Composite nonwovens are designed to 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥. They are widely used in products such as diapers, adult incontinence items, feminine hygiene products, medical gowns, surgical drapes and filtration media. Each layer contributes a specific property, for example absorption, barrier performance, filtration efficiency or mechanical strength. By engineering composite structures, manufacturers can precisely tailor performance while optimizing material usage, production efficiency and overall product cost.
