A sustainability initiative developed across our Italian sites has been selected for the WBCSD Business Action Bank, the global platform showcasing practical solutions developed by companies to accelerate sustainable business transformation.

Our “Decarbonize Multi-Site Industrial Operations” initiative focuses on the Nidec sites in Cinisello Balsamo and San Cipriano, which have achieved 100% renewable electricity through an integrated approach to energy, water and waste management.

Between FY2023 and FY2024, the initiative helped avoid more than 400 tonnes of Scope 2 emissions, recover or recycle 98.81% of waste, and reduce water consumption from 1,938 to 1,530 m³.

We are proud that this journey has been recognised and can serve as a model to be progressively replicated across other Nidec sites!

On 6 October, we are taking part in the 14th edition of the CSR and Social Innovation Fair at Bocconi University in Milan, this year dedicated to the theme “Going Beyond.”

Simone Cascioli, Global HSE & ESG Director at Nidec, will be among the speakers at the session “The Rating I Would Like | Rethinking ESG Assessment and Measurement Across Supply Chains.”

The discussion will look beyond current rating models and explore criteria and tools that can help measure sustainability across the supply chain more effectively.

The energy transition can generate value that goes far beyond reducing emissions.

For South African mining company Ergo Mining, we developed an integrated system combining a 160 MWh BESS infrastructure with a 60 MWp photovoltaic plant, designed to ensure operational continuity even when the power grid is unstable.

The project allows to integrate approximately 100 GWh of renewable energy every year, avoid up to 96,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, create local employment and support the transfer of technical expertise.

It’s a concrete example of how innovation and sustainability can advance together 🤝

We are proud to announce that Nidec BESS has won the Utility-Scale Project of the Year Award at the Solar & Storage Live Awards 2026 for our UK battery augmentation project.

Leveraging Nidec’s DC Block solution, the Stony (79.9 MWh) and Ferrymuir (49.9 MWh) BESS assets, part of the Gore Street Energy Storage Fund portfolio, are being upgraded from 1-hour to 2-hour duration systems.

With a combined capacity of 129.8 MWh, the modular augmentation adds storage capacity to existing battery installations, increasing available energy and enhancing flexibility while minimising disruption to ongoing operations. This scalable approach empowers asset owners to respond to evolving market requirements, access additional trading opportunities and maximise long-term asset value.

The award recognises our pioneering approach to BESS augmentation, setting a new benchmark for BESS infrastructure upgrades and contributing to a more resilient energy system.
