Vortex Hydra completes the supply of four DN4450 PN10 butterfly valves for the Ružín pumped-storage hydro power plant in Slovakia.
Between 2023 and 2026, Vortex Hydra completed an important supply for the Ružín pumped-storage power plant in Slovakia, consisting of four DN4450 PN10 butterfly valves.
The project involved large-diameter valves designed and manufactured for operation in a strategic hydropower facility, under demanding service conditions and with high reliability requirements.
The scope of supply included engineering, manufacturing, quality controls, factory testing, preparation for shipment, and supervision of the installation activities, in accordance with the applicable technical standards and the client’s specifications.
A particularly significant aspect of the project concerned the site installation conditions. Due to the limited lifting capacity of the existing powerhouse overhead crane, it was not possible to handle the valve in its fully assembled configuration.
For this reason, Vortex Hydra developed a specific site assembly and handling procedure, which involved assembling the valve directly inside the powerhouse and then carrying out a controlled 90° rotation.
This operation was performed using the available overhead crane in combination with auxiliary hoists, which were used to guide and control the valve movement during rotation, ensuring safe handling of the loads throughout the operation.
This solution made it possible to overcome the constraints imposed by the existing powerhouse infrastructure, reducing the need for external lifting equipment and allowing the valves to be installed under complex site conditions.
A special mention goes to company ROEZ, s.r.o., the EPC contractor that coordinated the project on turn-key basis and with whom Vortex Hydra worked closely throughout the ex*****on phase.
ROEZ also managed and carried out the site installation activities, including the complex assembly and handling operations inside the powerhouse.
Vortex Hydra also wishes to thank the final client, Slovenské elektrárne, a.s., for the trust placed in our company and for the constructive cooperation during the project.
Due to their size and construction complexity, these valves represent a significant example of Vortex Hydra’s capability to manage high-level projects, combining engineering, manufacturing, quality control and site installation support.
