Caravel has achieved a prestigious new milestone: fl**ged bearings in 2/2 with ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) certification. We can supply bearings certified by this prestigious inspection company, as well as bronze or stainless steel bearings with Lloyd's Register or RINA certification. We are also conducting laboratory tests with the Giordano Institute (www.giordano.it) to obtain DNV type approval for brass and rubber bearings. Certified quality products for demanding customers and complex marine and industrial applications.

The Ugo Gregoretti is a 61 meters long vessel of the Italian Coast Guard (Guardia Costiera). It serves a multipurpose role including search and rescue, maritime patrol, law enforcement, and environmental protection and carries fast rescue boats and onboard sensors for surveillance and navigation. Regular missions include fisheries inspections, migrant rescue, and maritime safety enforcement in the Mediterranean.
In 2020 hosted the President of the Italian Republic.
Guess what? It has just been equipped with a set of 700 mm long bronze and rubber bearings from Caravel. The shaft has a diameter of 220 mm. We have relined the inner surface of the bearings we manufactured years ago, allowing for significant savings in time and costs for our Coast Guard. Straight to the point as usual here in Caravel!!!

A set of 395 mm shaft bearings for a hydroelectric plant in Spain: custom-designed S355J2H shell and nitrile rubber lining suitable for dry starting. The bearings were delivered to the customer with all the necessary documentation: chemical analysis, tensile strength, hardness, impact resistance, and penetrant tests conducted at Accredia-certified laboratories. The dry start rubber has been tested as well. Our suppliers are also part of a supply chain of excellence!

A bushing requiring re-rubbering was installed on the "Italia" vessel, operated by the Società Navigazione Lago di Lugano (Switzerland). The bushing, in terrible condition and with a nearly deformed fl**ge, was restored to as good as new. Thanks to our experience, the old fl**ge was removed and replaced with a new one, crafted to the required precision. The work was completed in just one week, allowing the vessel to return to service immediately during a season when shipyard downtime is not an option.

At Caravel we have just delivered a batch of fifteen bearings in 316L steel and NBR anti-friction rubber for a major hydroelectric power plant in Argentina. They will be part of a complex system of vertical pumps with a 270 mm shaft diameter. The plant is maintained and managed by a multinational American company with facilities and premises worldwide.
These bushings have been manufactured with an elastomer suitable for withstanding dry starts for over 30 seconds.
The rubber compound is the result of careful design and prototyping that we have conducted over the last six months together with our best suppliers of rubber and pre-vulcanization adhesives. The research and development activity has been conducted by coordinating the requirements of the design activities as prescribed by ISO 9001 and the Prince 2 project management framework.
