ooked by new and returning customers, the company has already successfully flown 44 payloads. D-Orbit is the first company to address the logistics needs of the space market. Its forward-thinking view has enabled it to consistently create solutions for its customers that save them money and time, like ION Cargo Spacecraft, a vehicle that can transport satellites in orbit and release them individually into distinct orbital slots, and a proprietary cloud-based mission control software suite designed to control entire satellite constellations. As it looks to the future, D-Orbit is already developing and testing new technologies to extend the life of satellites in orbit, perform active debris removal, enable interplanetary space logistics, and more. D-Orbit is creating an infrastructure that will broaden humankind’s opportunities to operate in space and colonize the solar system.

We're happy to announce that D-Orbit has signed a contract with Cosmo Bee, a South Korean space startup developing electric propulsion systems for microsatellites.

Founded in July 2023 as a spin-off from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Cosmo Bee builds on KAIST's long-standing research in electric propulsion to develop miniaturized Hall thruster products for small satellites.

Hosted on our ION Satellite Carrier, Cosmo Bee will conduct an in-orbit demonstration of Honeybee, a 10 mN-class Hall thruster system designed for microsatellite missions. The mission is a key step toward establishing Honeybee's flight heritage.

The demonstration will validate Honeybee's performance in orbit, supporting its transition toward commercial applications in the global small satellite market.

Welcome aboard!

🔎 Customer Spotlight 🔎

Continuing our journey through the customers of the Above the Summer Sky mission, today we highlight Stardome and its Stardome Notary Source (SNS) module, on board ION SCV Joyful Julia for an in-orbit demonstration.

The Stardome SNS is a hardware module integrated within the satellite host, giving the on-board computer (OBC) a unique Stardome digital identity and the ability to digitally sign the data it generates. In other words, every piece of data can be certified right at its source in orbit: Stardome can prove exactly which module produced it, and confirm it hasn't been altered or tampered with along the way, bringing a new layer of trust and traceability to data generated in space.

Furthermore, Stardome SNS devices are also used to provide a synchronization reference to all the ground and satellite Stardome digital signature modules embedded in various data sources, providing resilience to data networks, especially those operating in the machine-to-machine communication environments.

We are glad to have you on board!

🔎 Customer Spotlight 🔎
With the recent launch of our latest ION Satellite Carrier mission, Above the Summer Sky, we're kicking off a new round of Customer Spotlights, featuring both new and recurring customers who joined us on this launch.

We start with LusoSpace, a returning customer who has flown with us before.

The three 8U satellites, Cesário, Florbela, and Torga, flying aboard ION, will join PoSAT-2, Camões, Agustina, Saramago, and Pessoa in the skies, expanding the Lusíada constellation as part of LusoSpace's ambitious plan to deploy a 12-satellite constellation equipped with cutting-edge VDES (VHF Data Exchange System) payloads.

The constellation aims to revolutionize maritime connectivity, delivering significantly higher bandwidth than current AIS (Automatic Identification System) applications, enhanced data integrity, and a major leap forward in maritime communication and safety.

We are glad to have you on board again!

A few weeks ago, Elisa Castoldi and Francesco Fontanot from D-Orbit, along with Federico Bassi from TMC Italia, presented a paper on the value of in-orbit maintenance at ESREL2026 and the 3rd ESA RAMS Conference.

The joint research, titled "Preliminary Application of In-Orbit Maintenance for LEO SmallSats", simulated a fleet of LEO SmallSats, based on D-Orbit's ION Satellite Carrier fleet as a representative case study, supported by a network of orbital servicers and in-orbit spare-parts depots over a 10-year mission lifecycle.

By comparing maintenance strategies ranging from reactive repair to fleet-wide predictive optimization, the study demonstrated that in-orbit servicing can nearly triple fleet operational performance. In an environment where servicing opportunities are scarce, it's not how often you intervene that matters most, but how smart your maintenance decisions are.

As the space economy moves toward larger, longer-lived constellations, in-orbit servicing is becoming a strategic lever for sustainable and cost-effective operations.
