Its forward-thinking view has enabled it to consistently create solutions for its customers that save them money and time, like ION Cargo Spacecraft, a vehicle that can transport satellites in orbit and release them individually into distinct orbital slots, and a proprietary cloud-based mission control software suite designed to control entire satellite constellations. It was our pleasure and honor to welcome the Ambassador of Japan to Italy, ONO Hikariko, and a delegation from the Embassy of Japan, together with a delegation from Marubeni Corporation, to our facility on 16 October.

The visit was facilitated by Marubeni, investor and strategic partner of D-Orbit.
During the visit, we introduced D-Orbit, our work in space logistics and our view of where the market is heading, and exchanged perspectives on the opportunities ahead for the sector.

We thank the Ambassador for her interest in our work, and Marubeni for their continued partnership!

Oggi, la nostra Catherine Doldirina, General Counsel e VP Regulatory Strategy, è intervenuta alla sessione “EU Space Act & Legge nazionale in materia di economia dello spazio” degli Stati Generali della Space Economy – Spazio Italia 2.0, promossi dall’Intergruppo Parlamentare per la Space Economy, a La Spezia.
Un’importante occasione di confronto sul quadro normativo europeo e nazionale e sulle prospettive di sviluppo dell’economia dello spazio.

Ringraziamo gli organizzatori per l’invito e per aver promosso questo momento di dialogo e confronto su temi fondamentali per il futuro del settore spaziale italiano ed europeo.

Il 28 ottobre, dalle 12:00 alle 13:00, appuntamento con “Data Center orbitali: il cloud oltre la Terra”, il webinar online organizzato da IKN Italy.

Per D-Orbit interverrà Stefano Antonetti, Strategy & Growth Director, insieme a Luca Petronzio, Senior Vice President Technology & Innovation di Telespazio, e Chiara Rossi, News Editor Spazio e Difesa di Start Magazine.

L’incontro approfondirà le applicazioni pratiche di D-Orbit e Telespazio nel campo dei data center orbitali e dello Space Edge Computing: elaborare i dati direttamente nello spazio, utilizzando l’energia solare, per ridurre il traffico verso Terra e sviluppare infrastrutture più autonome e distribuite.

Fra le tematiche che saranno approfondite durante l’incontro, la capacità di calcolo necessaria a sostenere la crescita dell’IA, la riduzione della latenza e dei costi di elaborazione e la resilienza delle infrastrutture digitali.

Our Customer Spotlight series continues with OQ Technology, a Luxembourg-based satellite telecommunications company pioneering global IoT connectivity from space. Flying aboard our ION SCV Empowering Ekaterina (The Sky Isn't the Limit), the company's Space Tower-1 hosted payload is demonstrating 5G NR direct-to-device (D2D) telecommunications capabilities in orbit.

Space Tower-1 is a 5G direct-to-device demonstration mission designed to validate two-way connectivity between a low Earth orbit satellite and standard mobile devices. The payload supports direct text messaging and emergency broadcast capabilities, helping advance seamless satellite-to-device communications without the need for specialized user equipment.

Leveraging OQ Technology’s 5G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) infrastructure and growing constellation of low Earth orbit satellites, the mission contributes to the development of standards-based connectivity solutions capable of extending coverage to remote and underserved regions worldwide.

Il 20 ottobre Elena Giglio, nostra Regulatory Liaison & Policy Advocacy Lead, ha portato a Roma la testimonianza di D-Orbit alla giornata di kick-off di TT Lazio – Technology Transfer Lazio, il programma dedicato alla valorizzazione dei risultati della ricerca e al loro trasferimento verso il mercato, ospitata da Lazio Innova.

Rivolgendosi ai ricercatori e ai team che stanno iniziando il loro percorso di trasferimento tecnologico, Elena ha condiviso l’esperienza di D-Orbit, dalla ricerca all’impresa.

Oggi Stefano Antonetti, nostro Strategy & Growth Director, interverrà alla tavola rotonda “I.A., Dati e Data Center per la space economy”, ottava sessione tematica degli Stati Generali della Space Economy – Spazio Italia 2.0, promossi dall’Intergruppo Parlamentare per la Space Economy e ospitata a Allianz MiCo a Milano, dalle 14:00 alle 17:00, nell’ambito del CES Unveiled.

L’incontro riunirà rappresentanti delle istituzioni, del mondo accademico, degli enti di ricerca e delle imprese per un confronto sul ruolo dell’intelligenza artificiale, dei dati e dei data center nello sviluppo della Space Economy, tra disponibilità e valorizzazione dei dati, capacità di calcolo, infrastrutture digitali e sinergie tra settore pubblico, ricerca e industria.

🔎 Customer Spotlight 🔎

Following the launch of our latest ION Satellite Carrier mission aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-18, we are opening a new round of Customer Spotlights dedicated to the new and returning customers.

We begin with Genergo, an Italian deep-tech company joining us for the fourth time. Flying aboard ION SCV Empowering Ekaterina (The Sky Isn't the Limit), GEN04 is a 2U prototype of Genergo’s patented in-space propulsion system, designed to generate thrust through controlled electromagnetic pulses without using propellant or expelling mass.

GEN01, GEN02 and GEN03 were each hosted aboard ION to test successive iterations of the technology in orbit, together accumulating 1,330 hours of operation across 1,540 activation cycles. The latest unit retains the same architecture in a more compact configuration, with updated technical specifications supporting the next stage of the program. Its performance will undergo independent in-orbit analysis and validation.

🛰️ Mission Update! 🛰️

On October the 14th, ION SCV Alluring Alexander officially began the commercial phase of the Into the Quiet Dark mission with the successful deployment of MOI-1A. Developed by Indian company TakeMe2Space, and manifested with the support of impulso.space, the 6U CubeSat is designed for in-orbit computing and is the first commercial satellite of the company’s OrbitLab constellation.

Now operating independently in orbit, MOI-1A will enable customers to upload large AI models and run inference directly onboard, helping make Earth observation more accessible and cost-effective. The satellite combines a multispectral imager with a 9 m ground sampling distance and a 117 TOPS AI accelerator capable of processing imagery directly in space.

All spacecraft subsystems were developed in-house by TakeMe2Space. The approximately 12 kg satellite features three-axis stabilization and an attitude determination and control system (ADCS) incorporating proprietary pyramidal reaction wheels and a star tracker for agile and precise pointing. It is also equipped with approximately 2 m-long solar panels.

We would like to thank TakeMe2Space and Impulso Space for choosing ION SCV Alluring Alexander to bring MOI-1A to orbit and wish them every success throughout their mission.

L’8 ottobre Nicoletta Regazzo, nostra Chief Financial Officer, è intervenuta a “Dalla visione all’azione. Tecnologia, persone e strategie per governare il cambiamento”, l’evento organizzato da Azimut al Cineporto di Fiorano Modenese.
Moderata dalla giornalista Valeria Braglia, Nicoletta si è confrontata con altre quattro protagoniste del mondo dell’impresa, dell’innovazione e della formazione: Susanna Curti, imprenditrice del Gruppo Gas Sales Blue Energy, Lucia Giovannini, esperta di psicologia del cambiamento, Giada Beccari, Digital Transformation Manager di Ducati Motor Holding, e Cecilia Camellini, campionessa paralimpica di nuoto e psicoterapeuta.
Nel suo intervento Nicoletta ha raccontato la sfida della New Space Economy, spiegando come lo spazio sia ormai una componente essenziale dell’economia e della vita quotidiana, dalla navigazione satellitare ai pagamenti con il telefono, e come sia sempre più strategico a livello internazionale e di interesse per i grandi investitori.
