Chocolate is irresistible.

A little less so when it sticks to the conveyor belts on the line. 🍫

In chocolate and confectionery production and packaging, keeping conveyor systems clean can be a real challenge. And steam can offer a particularly effective solution.

In this video, we introduce the cleaning system developed in partnership with Steam Italy, designed for both monolithic belts and modular chains.

How does it work? And why can steam be particularly well suited to these applications?

Come funziona?

When is the right time to change something that works?

Never. If it is not causing any problems, why invest in changing it?

The point is, working doesn’t necessarily mean performing at its best. As production requirements evolve, even a reliable solution can become a limitation to line efficiency and result in missed opportunities.

It happened to us too: in this video, we explain why we decided to move on from the long-standing 879 chain to the new USC.

If you want to understand whether your line could also be improved without rebuilding it from scratch, we at M.H. can help you assess it: get in touch with us today.

What worked 10 years ago still works today… if we built it. 😉

Jokes aside: a well-designed packaging line can last for decades, but packaging materials, sustainability requirements and regulations change - and the machines need to evolve with them.

Is your line still keeping pace with today’s requirements? 👀

🎥 We talk about it in our new video on the blog: link in the first comment!

Not every packaging line needs a lane merger.

Understanding whether one is required, even before deciding which type to use, is often one of the most critical parts of the design process.

The key factors are mainly the downstream machine and production speed. In some configurations, the merging function is already performed by a product collating system; above a certain production rate, however, a multi-lane packaging machine becomes the more suitable solution.

When a lane merger is required, the choice starts with the product. If it can withstand accumulation, a pneumatic lane merger is suitable. If the product is delicate or requires contact-free handling, the solution moves towards the dynamic DU and HP Series.

In our new blog article, we take a closer look at when a lane merger is needed and which type to choose.

Inefficient line? Add a buffer to solve the problem.

Unfortunately, it’s not always that simple: when the line is already in place, adding a buffer could turn into a costly investment that solves nothing without an in-depth analysis!

Watch the video on our blog to discover the two main reasons why a buffer is not always the right solution: link in the first comment!

Linea inefficiente?

Have you reduced the film thickness and your production line has started experiencing issues?

Packages slipping on curves, accumulation systems no longer working properly, out-of-phase synchronizers. The packaging machine keeps running, but everything upstream no longer responds as it used to.

When the film becomes thinner, the behavior of the packaging changes across the entire line, not only on the packaging machine.

We have written a technical article on this topic because it is an recurring issue that typically appears in the same way and is usually addressed too late.

Find out where the problems arise and how to intervene on the line without stopping production.

Most food processing lines don’t have a hygiene issue.
They have a design issue.
You can clean as much as you want, use the most aggressive chemicals, extend sanitation time.

But if the frame has enclosed cavities, if chain returns are inaccessible, if joints retain moisture, washdown doesn’t solve anything. It just moves the problem.

So the question you should start with is not “how do I clean better?” It’s: “was this equipment designed to be cleaned?”

In our latest blog article, we compare two approaches:
🔹 Washdown → managing the issue downstream
🔹 Hygienic Design → eliminating the problem at the source

Plus, we share 3 practical steps to quickly identify the critical points in your line.
Because passing an audit with confidence is not luck. It’s design.

🔹 Wash Down → gestione del danno a valle

When a food packaging line underperforms, the first instinct is to look for the machine causing the slowdown.

But the real issue may have started months earlier—on the layout drawing.

❌ Buffer in the wrong position → micro-stoppages that halt the entire line
❌ Insufficient space → poor sanitation and hygiene risks
❌ Intersecting flows → cross-contamination

Layout mistakes come at a cost every day: downtime, waste, and complex maintenance.

In our latest article, we’ve outlined the 5 most common mistakes—and how to avoid them from the design phase

If you’d like to learn more, you’ll find the link in the first comment.

❌ Spazi insufficienti → sanificazione superficiale e rischi igienici
