⚓️ PLC Marine at the “BIG Community Day – Strategic Networking and European Project Development within the BIG Cluster”, an event promoted by Cluster BIG in collaboration with APRE, dedicated to fostering connections, encouraging dialogue, and creating new business opportunities.

The event aims to showcase the expertise and experience within the Cluster by bringing together universities, research institutions, large companies, and SMEs operating across various sectors of the Blue Economy.
Through a structured thematic networking programme featuring several in-depth panel discussions, we exchanged ideas, identified common interests, and explored new opportunities for collaborative project development.

With APRE’s contribution, we had the opportunity to explore funding opportunities under Horizon Europe and other major European research and innovation programmes, encouraging the development of new partnerships and synergies.
The discussions focused on four key areas: Underwater, Offshore, Biodiversity, and Fisheries/Aquaculture.

A particularly valuable opportunity to connect and 🤝🏻 collaborate in an environment that fosters meaningful partnerships and opens up new horizons for the future of the Blue Economy.

🌏 Today, we had the opportunity to take part in: “Obiettivo Export – Businesses and Territories of Central Italy”, a particularly meaningful event for our Business Unit.

For our PLC Marine Business Unit, which engages on a daily basis with international stakeholders, projects and markets; events like this represent an important opportunity for insight, growth and continuous development.

The event, promoted by Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, marked the third and final regional stage on the road to the 2026 National Export Conference.

In Rome, at the Ennio Morricone Auditorium – Parco della Musica, we had the opportunity to engage with some of the key institutions and organizations supporting the Italian export ecosystem: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Farnesina), ICE Agency, CDP, SACE, SIMEST and Unioncamere.

Of particular value was the direct exchange with representatives of the Italian commercial network around the world — from the Heads of Commercial Offices at Italian Embassies in markets such as the United States, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, India, Vietnam and Qatar, to the Directors of ICE Offices in strategic countries including China, France, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Poland and Indonesia.

For us, being there means, above all, continuing to broaden our horizons, gather new insights and maintain a close focus on the dynamics shaping international markets.

An exchange that goes beyond simply analysing foreign markets and, for a company like PLC Marine, provides further motivation to look to the future with an increasingly international perspective 🤝🏻

What does this tiny sticker have to do with a ship’s cybersecurity?

More than you might think.

On board a vessel, a USB drive can be a useful maintenance tool — or an unexpected entry point into an IT or OT system.
That’s why removable media should never simply be “plugged in.”
Cybersecurity procedures may require devices to be authorized, inspected, malware-scanned and clearly identified before use.

And this tiny label?

It’s just the visible part of a much bigger cybersecurity process.

Strict international maritime cyber safety rules heavily restrict USB ports and power adapters, making physical labels like "Authorized USB" or "Personal Storage Only" an absolute must-have on board. Following massive malware outbreaks initiated by rogue flash drives, modern security protocols mean unapproved flash drives are completely banned from connecting to ship systems—every single portable drive must be physically inspected, safety-checked, and permanently labeled.

⚓️🇮🇹 An encounter with Italian excellence around the world this morning. 🌏

🙏🏻 Thanks to The International Propeller Club, we had the privilege of taking part in the Naples stop of the Amerigo Vespucci North America World Tour 2026, docked at Naples’ Maritime Station.

Stepping aboard a symbol so deeply representative of Italy around the world, of our maritime heritage and of the culture of the sea that forms such an important part of our identity, is never something to be taken for granted.

Launched on 22 February 1931 in Castellammare di Stabia, the Amerigo Vespucci has trained generations of officers and, throughout its 95-year history, has sailed hundreds of thousands of nautical miles, carrying the values and excellence of our country across the world.

This is not the first time we have had the opportunity to step aboard the Amerigo Vespucci, but returning to this ship always means reconnecting with a piece of our country’s history and experiencing firsthand something that, in terms of charm, tradition and prestige, goes far beyond a simple visit.

🤝🏻 Sharing this experience with The International Propeller Club, whom we sincerely thank, made the occasion even more meaningful.

⚓️ We were pleased to attend the ASSONAVE Public Assembly, held to celebrate the Association’s 80th anniversary—an important opportunity to discuss the future of the Italian shipbuilding industry.

🌊 During the meeting, it became clear that the maritime sector is facing an increasingly complex landscape, shaped by geopolitical tensions, new international industrial and trade policies, and growing competition from Asia. These challenges require the industry to continuously adapt and innovate.

🗣️ Among the most insightful speeches was that of Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri, who outlined two key strategic directions for the future of 🚢 shipbuilding: product innovation, through the design of increasingly sustainable, efficient, and future-compliant vessels, and process innovation, by developing production systems that are more flexible, digital, and resilient.

🎤 The event also featured the presentation of the first “Sapiens Ship,” the Four Seasons vessel built by Fincantieri at its Ancona shipyard. The ship integrates artificial intelligence systems capable of learning from operational data to optimize routes, fuel consumption, efficiency, and sustainability. 🛥️ Another key topic was the growing importance of serially produced vessels, where cost optimization is becoming a decisive competitive advantage, as well as the evolution of manufacturing processes through automation. The introduction of robotic technologies is transforming the industry, shifting value from manual labor to knowledge-based expertise.

🤝🏻 The event also provided an excellent opportunity for networking and meaningful discussions, leading to promising prospects for collaboration, particularly in the areas of training, 📚 academy development, digitalization, and the creation of dedicated solutions for the maritime sector.
