MORTO.
Prima capiamo questa cosa, meglio sarà...

WE CAN ONLY SHARE, NOT COMPETE
These supposedly "stochastic parrots" are considered so limited that, following the Pope's recent appeal, even Anthropic itself is calling for a global pause in the development of advanced AI systems, arguing that we are not adequately prepared for what may come next.
Anthropic is actively developing self-* systems (i.e., AI systems capable of self-improvement, self-adaptation, and self-healing.)
Interestingly, self-* software systems were already the focus of my PhD dissertation back in 2007.
Together with my research team, we are working on two LLM-based solutions that incorporate integrated self-* loops:
- The first work, linked in the comments and currently under review at a prestigious IEEE journal, introduces self-healing mechanisms to address the problem of bibliographic hallucinations commonly exhibited by generative AI systems.
- The second work introduces self-improvement mechanisms aimed at the iterative enhancement of software code generated by large language models.
The difference, however, is that I conduct this research with 0€ dedicated funding and a team of only two researchers, whereas Anthropic operates with B of $ in resources and hundreds of researchers.
For those of us working in academia, the traditional research landscape is undergoing a profound transformation. The gap between the resources available to major AI companies and those available to universities is becoming increasingly difficult to bridge.
The sooner we acknowledge this reality, the better equipped we will be to rethink the role of academic research in the age of large-scale industrial AI.
