🎉 Grande risultato per Neabotics! 🤖✈️

🏆 Great news from Neabotics!

We’re thrilled to share that our drone-crawler system KOALA, developed for ultrasonic testing (UT) inspection of pipelines, has been awarded 3rd place in the “Scaling of a Robotic Solution” category at the 10th SPRINT Robotics World Conference 2025! 🎉

This award celebrates the innovation behind KOALA — a unique system that combines drone mobility and crawler precision to perform safe and efficient inspections in challenging industrial environments.

The project was funded by Equinor and technically supported by Aker Solutions — a big thank you to both for their trust and collaboration! 🙌

We’re incredibly proud of our team for reaching this important milestone and grateful to the SPRINT Robotics community for recognizing our work in advancing robotic inspection technologies.

3D camera with optical zoom and controlled divergence for critical immersive aerial inspection tasks

Neabotics has completed the field test of its innovative stabilized 3D camera with 10x optical zoom and controlled divergence that allows a remote 3D immersive inspection with a detection accuracy of up to 1 mm at 5 m away.

This innovative solution allows the operator to use a VR headset to control the pan-tilt and zoom of the camera to visualize both the general status of the equipment and infrastructure, as well as small defects.

In addition, the 3D view is maintained during the zoom thanks to the controlled divergence that allows the operator to appreciate not only the size, but also the depth of a defect, such as in the case of rust.

The next step will be the development of an ATEX version of this equipment that can be installed on board any commercial drone.

is proud to present its prototype NDT drone for ultrasonic measurements in action in a real plant for the first time.

The NDT drone features an ultra-lightweight robotic arm with 5 degrees of freedom (DoF) with a 6 DoF force/torque sensor in the wrist, a tool with a UT probe for thickness measurement with a coupling gel dispencer system.

Thanks to the possibility of measuring the interaction force and the dexterity conferred by the robotic arm in real time, the NDT drone is able to guarantee high quality measurements, comparable to those carried out by specialized human operators, even in geometrically complex conditions where other drone systems capable of measuring only via orthogonal access fail.

The H2020 Aerial-Core project has ended successfully. Neabotics contributed with the development of an anthropomorphic robotic arm with 6 degrees of freedom and a spherical wrist, ultra-light (4kg) but with high load capacity (3.5kg), and belt transmission. Tasks such as the installation of separators, bird diverters, cleaning of insulators, and more, will now be possible without putting the lives of operators at risk and with much lower costs.

This week we successfully performed on-site experiments featured a custom drone tailored specifically for ultrasonic inspection of concrete surfaces.

Thanks to this technology, in the near future it will be possible to enhance safety protocols and heavily reduce the need for manual inspections in hazardous environments, such as elevated structures or confined spaces.

The robot consists of a tilting drone, with a sensing tool that can be mounted on the front or on top of the main structure. This tool includes several sensors like Time-Of-Flight sensors and load cells to enable the autonomous interaction with the surface, as well as UT sensors used to perform measurements regarding the quality of the concrete structure.

The software consists of a customized version of the PX4 Autopilot firmware, running on the Holybro's Pixhawk 6C board.

Congratulations to the whole team for the successful work! Michele Marolla, Salvatore Marcellini, Giuseppe De Vito, Pasquale Campanile

NEABOTICS presents the latest generation of its Pipe-Drone for NDT inspection of insulated pipes for the identification of CUI (Corrosion under Insulation). This innovative hybrid drone is equipped with a mobile base capable of stabilizing on the tube and moving on it carrying and maneuvering different types of sensors. In the tests shown in this video, the drone was equipped with a new instrument that detects the stress of the tube generated by both CUI and normal internal corrosion through the analysis of the radial magnetic field. Tests demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed solution and all defects on the real-plant pipeline sample were correctly identified.
