🌳 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧 "𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚"? 🌳

This incredible tree is like a living dinosaur—it actually survived the great extinction that wiped out the dinosaurs millions of years ago! 🦕🦖

Our director, 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐨, took this amazing picture during his recent trip to Brazil 🇧🇷 for the IBRAMEM conference, where he spoke about mass timber and sustainable engineering.

At Ergodomus, we deeply admire nature and draw inspiration from trees like the Araucaria, which symbolise resilience, longevity, and the strength of timber as a building material.

Nature continues to inspire our journey in timber engineering! 🌲🏗️

🌲 𝐂𝐋𝐓: 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧?

This week’s glossary term is 𝐂𝐋𝐓 (𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬-𝐋𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫) – a revolutionary material shaping the future of timber construction.

Unlike other timber-based materials, 𝐂𝐋𝐓 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬-𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐲𝐰𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬, where the fiber direction alternates at 90°. But here’s the crucial part:
✔️ 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫.
✔️ 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲!
✔️ 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬.

If you don’t carefully analyze grain direction in 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲, you risk structural inefficiencies, warping, and failures.

I always stress the importance of 𝐂𝐋𝐓 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: here below are some great images to illustrate why texture and grain direction make all the difference! 📸✨

Did you know that 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 can skyrocket after certain phases of a project? That’s exactly what the 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 illustrates, reminding us that the further you go in the workflow, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞, 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬.

🔎 Why is clash detection so important?
Imagine arriving on-site and realizing that ducts, pipes, or beams don’t fit because they interfere with other elements of the structure. That’s when costs skyrocket, schedules get delayed, and frustration builds up.

At Ergodomus, we prioritize clash detection before construction begins:
➤ 𝐖𝐞 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 between structural and MEP elements early in the design phase.
➤ 𝐖𝐞 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 to coordinate disciplines and visualize potential issues.

I’m excited to introduce another one of our Venetian pavilions: the 𝐁𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧. Constructed entirely of 𝐛𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐨, this structure showcased the versatility and elegance of natural materials amidst the architectural wonders of Venice. 🌿✨

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭, 𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
Working in Venice always presents unique challenges—whether it’s tight canals, historic surroundings, or the need to 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐞 the pavilion at the end of the event. At Ergodomus, our 𝐃𝐟𝐌𝐀(𝐝) approach ensures each project is engineered for 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, and 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠.

𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩:
We worked side by side with architects, builders, and logistics teams to bring this 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐞-𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 structure to life—demonstrating how bamboo can be both aesthetically striking and structurally sound.

As the next Architecture Biennale approaches on May 10th, we’re ready to partner with architects and visionaries worldwide to engineer and realize their innovative projects. Let’s continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible! 🚀
