Do you know what's the origin of our name?

It's Urania, the muse of Geometry and Astronomy.

She uses her compass to shape the world of forms while drawing inspiration from the distant gaze through her astrolabe.

In 1958, Renzo Targi founded Urania Mobili, a company dedicated to crafting furniture in the thriving area of Poggibonsi. The name Urania sprang from his imagination and desire to innovate.

The name Urania continued to be a part of our identity when, in 1979, Renzo expanded into the production of thermoacoustic insulating sandwich panels and ventured into export. He named the company Pan Urania, inspired by the panels.

This is why, following the acquisition of Serrall by Pan Urania in 2016, the company chose Urania as the name for its group of companies.

Even without forming a holding company under that name, the Urania Group brand permeated our culture and communications.

The symbol of the U with the dot represents us because it reminds us that the Urania Group is an organization aimed at the world, at exploration and distant observation, shaping reality with geometric forms that we can touch.

Have you ever heard of the Broken Window Theory?

When we see things that are messed up or broken, we might start to feel like it's okay to act out and do bad things too.

On the other hand, when we are in a place that is nice to look at and makes us feel good, we tend to act better and be kinder to each other.

Our purpose is deeply influenced by the "Broken Windows Theory"

The concept was introduced by Professor Philip Zimbardo of Stanford in 1969.

Zimbardo's experiment demonstrated that visual disorder, such as an abandoned car, can encourage vandalism and crime, varying significantly between the Bronx, a conflicted area, and Palo Alto, a serene town.

The moment disorder was introduced in Palo Alto by breaking a car window,

it triggered a chain reaction of vandalism, mirroring the Bronx's fate.

This pivotal study, further validated in Groningen, Netherlands, underscores the profound impact of our surroundings on behavior.

Urania has embraced this understanding, pursuing beauty as a social activator.

As we look towards 2050, we at Urania are committed to evolving into a society with a positive impact.

The path to sustainability is not just a choice but a necessity.

Our journey is challenging.

For an entity of our scale, achieving short-term sustainability takes much work.

However, we embarked on this path early, and our proactive measures are already making a difference:

• The ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications have been instrumental in shaping our long-term vision.

• Since 2008, we've been integrating solar energy into our systems. By 2023, we proudly covered approximately 70% of our electricity needs through self-production or feeding back into the grid.

• Our investments in cogenerators and high-performance, energy-efficient buildings have significantly reduced our reliance on fossil fuels.

But this is just the beginning of our journey.

In the coming years, we are dedicating ourselves to profoundly understanding sustainability, particularly in environmental terms.

Today, we celebrate the International Day of Education.

At Urania, we are proud to work on this incredible topic consistently.

Our products are often critical classroom elements, from kindergarten to higher education.

The use of modular solutions facilitates the creation of more beautiful and comfortable spaces in off-site construction.

It allows for the renovation or rebuilding of existing spaces with temporary buildings that enable students to avoid being unfortunate users of unattractive spaces.

In the school, we have built one of our most beautiful stories, the reconstruction of the Cittareale School, which acted as a catalyst for a small community scattered across the Italian Apennines following the 2016 Amatrice earthquake.

Living among these people for a month, attending school in a tent, we understood how education is the fulcrum for building a better future and overcoming hatred and division.

It is in the eyes of the children who, thanks to our products, had a new school in just 19 days where they could grow that our mission found its place.

For this reason, in our region, we continue to invest, supporting local schools and giving them the most important things: time and example.

Through meetings, short lessons, and company visits, we strive to promote work, the importance of health and safety, the significance of commitment, and the creation of a better environment.

Celebrating a Milestone: Serrall's Achievement of ISO 45001 Certification

This is a giant leap in our strategy; now, every manufacturing company of Urania Group has ISO 45001 certification. Serrall reached Panurania, who was certified in January 2017.

Urania Group places Safety and Security as a pillar. Safety is not just a policy; it's a cornerstone of our operations, bringing numerous benefits, including improved employee well-being, enhanced productivity, and a more substantial reputation in our industry.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to DNV for their guidance and support in this journey. Their expertise has helped us achieve this milestone and challenged us to re-evaluate and continually enhance our processes. This partnership ensures we never compromise on quality or safety, regardless of other priorities.

Looking ahead, we are excited to continue our journey of excellence with active initiatives like the extension of ISO 14001 across the entire group and the adoption of ISO 50001 for energy management.

Today is International Volunteer Day, and as Urania, we want to contribute to our territory.

Today, we want to give our kudos to Avanti Tutta Onlus, an association founded in the beloved memory of Leonardo Cenci, a man who fought cancer smiling and running.

In 2022, we financed the renovation of the waiting room of the Oncology Day Hospital. We aimed to give help and create a better awareness for our employees and families to volunteer.

Urania Group believes that a better environment leads to a better life. And waiting in a better space improves people's mood during their cure.

Being disabled is a fact, but adapting allows one to overcome obstacles.

Today, on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we reflect on what Anffas AltaValdelsa has shown us through many years of collaboration.

Thanks to i Bambini delle Fate for about a decade, we've supported Anffas in aiding less visible disabilities, like intellectual and neurodevelopmental ones.

In Valdelsa, they enable disabled youth and adults to adapt to "normal" life, helping them find dignified work. In a society where it's easy to envy others' lives, Anffas helps the less fortunate experience humanity. With them, we live the beauty of integration and humankind.

Thank you, Flavia, and all these extraordinary individuals who bring us great joy.

Thank you to our mascots, Urania and Urgo, who symbolize exploration and resilience, reminding us of the unique strengths and abilities each of us possesses. We all have our own set of challenges, but it's our diverse capabilities and perspectives that make us uniquely valuable.
