Last Monday, we joined Schneider Electricc at their Innovation Hub in Casavatore HQ in Naples for a high-level discussion on the future of renewables and BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) with the participation of Nicola Armaroli and Enel Groupoup.
As the integration of intermittent renewable energy becomes the ultimate hurdle for both the grid and hard-to-abate sectors, Magaldi brought a different strategic perspective to the table: Thermal Energy Storage (TES).
While traditional chemical batteries address grid-specific demands, our (Magaldi Thermal Energy Storage) system – based on patented fluidized sand bed technology - tackles the biggest bottleneck for energy-intensive industries: decarbonizing high-temperature process heat.
MATES offers a concrete opportunity to turn energy price volatility into a competitive advantage by decoupling electricity procurement from steam production.
It soaks up cheap, excess, intermittent green electricity during peak sun and wind hours, stores it, and delivers it back as steady, high-temperature thermal energy 24/7.
This is a proven industrial reality built on strong partnerships. Schneider Electric was instrumental in this journey, supplying key technological components for our first-of-its-kind industrial-scale MATES plant, proudly inaugurated last September 2025 in Buccino (Salerno, Italy).
A big thank you to the Schneider Electric team for hosting such a timely event and fostering the exact kind of dialogue that energy-intensive industries desperately need!
