What is a decor in the furniture industry?

It is much more than a simple surface design: it’s the visual identity of a furniture panel. With designs that range from natural wood, concretes, metals and textiles, Emporio Skin decors bring character, style and emotion to interiors.
Behind every decor is a story and a detailed creative and technical process. Decors are born from inspiration – natural landscapes, picturesque villages, contemporary trends and different materials: designers carefully develop colors and textures to achieve a natural and authentic appearance.

Once designed, the decor is printed on decorative paper, which is then impregnated with melamine resin. After that, the paper is pressed onto wood panels at high temperatures; the presses also apply the chosen texture. This process ensures a high-quality product suitable for everyday use.

Che cos’è un decoro nel settore dell’arredamento?

È molto più di un semplice disegno superficiale: è l’identità visiva di un pannello d’arredo. Con motivi che spaziano dal legno naturale al cemento, dai metalli ai tessuti, i decori Emporio Skin conferiscono carattere, stile ed emozione agli interni.
Dietro ogni decoro si celano una storia e un accurato processo creativo e tecnico. I decori nascono dall'ispirazione: paesaggi naturali, villaggi pittoreschi, tendenze contemporanee e materiali vari. I designer sviluppano con cura colori e texture per ottenere un aspetto naturale e autentico.

Una volta sviluppato, il decoro viene stampato su carta decorativa, la quale viene poi impregnata con resina di melamina. Successivamente, il decoro viene pressato su pannelli di legno ad alta temperatura; le presse vi imprimono anche la finitura scelta. Questo processo garantisce un prodotto di alta qualità adatto all'uso quotidiano.

Working with wood in its raw form is an experience that shows just how much care goes into the process of woodworking and manufacturing.

These panels are not just surfaces, although they are often referred to as such; they’re structures shaped by grain direction, density, and the subtle variations that only natural material can offer. Each layer is selected and treated to balance stability with tactile depth, making them as functional as they are expressive.

What drives the design is not excess, but proportion. A sensitivity to how light moves across the surface, how edges meet, how the material responds. This approach is deeply rooted in an Italian way of thinking about interiors, where every element has intention, and beauty emerges from precision rather than decoration.

The “𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮” (“finish” or “texture”) is the surface treatment applied to decorative panels that defines their texture, gloss level (matte/glossy), and tactile feel. It is typically achieved using a press that imprints the chosen pattern at high temperatures.

Emporio Skin finishes range from wood effects – including synchronized patterns – to stone, metal, concrete, or fabric surfaces. In some cases, the 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝘀, such as a wood decor and a metal decor. From an aesthetic standpoint, it plays an important role: not only does it create a pleasant sense of depth – particularly visible when the panel is exposed to light at different angles – but it also 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿.

Dal punto di vista estetico, svolge un ruolo importante: non solo crea un piacevole 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮̀, particolarmente visibile quando il pannello viene esposto alla luce ad angolature diverse, ma accompagna e valorizza il decoro sottostante.

Dal punto di vista tecnico, poi, può migliorare le prestazioni del pannello: può renderlo più resistente ad abrasioni, graffi o umidità, può essere ignifugo o anti-impronta e può facilitare la pulizia della superficie.

The first and, so far, the only synchronized decor in the Emporio Skin collection, where the texture perfectly matches the decor paper beneath.

This decor recalls a gentle, snowy landscape, where the wood is caressed by a cool breeze that turns its color into white hues. The name “Hielo” means “ice” in Spanish and further represents the soul of a decor that’s all freshness and purity.

È come se il legno fosse stato accarezzato da una brina sottile, che ne ha schiarito le tonalità. Il suo nome, che in spagnolo si traduce con “Ghiaccio”, accentua la natura di un decoro che parla di freschezza e purezza.
