Sometimes tools are also works of art. Our new “wakizashi” chisel definitely fits that description. Head over to our website to order one of these rare and limited run masterpieces! A “wakizashi” is the shorter of the two swords traditionally worn by samurai, the katana being the full length sword. While the katana was often set aside indoors or in certain formal settings, the wakizashi remained close at hand, tucked into the wearer’s belt. This chisel takes its name from that tradition: like the short sword, it is designed to be carried by the craftsman and kept readily available whenever needed.

This premium chisel was forged by renowned Japanese blacksmith Akio Tasai using Special Blue Paper “aogami” steel, laminated to “mokume” (wood-grain pattern) Damascus. The back features a double-hollow grind, and the bevel is set at approximately 30 degrees. The chisel is fitted with a beautiful rosewood handle, with the hoop preset and the handle end properly mushroomed. It also includes a custom leather sheath, allowing the chisel to be securely worn at the waist. Slightly longer and more robust than a standard oire nomi bench chisel, it is especially well suited for chopping and heavy joinery work. Hand made in Japan.

Heute waren wir bei der SLUB Dresden und haben unsere japanischen Sägen von Temple Tool an den Makerspace gespendet.

Der Makerspace kann kostenlos genutzt werden – und ab sofort könnt ihr dort auch unsere japanischen Sägen ausprobieren und direkt damit arbeiten.

Wir freuen uns, japanische Handwerkskunst auf diese Weise für noch mehr Menschen zugänglich und erlebbar zu machen.

Und an alle in Dresden: Wenn euch unsere Sägen beim Ausprobieren gefallen, könnt ihr sie ganz einfach im BAUHAUS Online-Shop bestellen.

We had an amazing time at Macher Festival 2026 at Ferropolis!

It was truly special for us to see so many people pick up our Japanese saws, put them to work, and experience their performance firsthand. We were also really happy to meet so many amazing and well-known creators!

A huge thank you to everyone who tried our saws, and to the entire Macher Festival team for the warm welcome and an incredible event!

We’re having such an amazing time at Macher Festival 2026 Ferropolis Germany! 🇩🇪🪚

It’s an incredibly exciting and fun event, and we’re so happy to be part of it!

We’re lending out our Temple Tool Ryoba saws at the festival, giving lots of people the chance to try them out and experience Japanese saws firsthand.
