🔎 Application Example | Reducing Conveyor Chain Wear in an Ash Recovery Conveyor

Severe wear on bushings and rollers was a challenge for large-size conveyor chains used in an ash recovery conveyor.

To address this issue, Tsubakimoto Chain evaluated a customized test specification (Test Spec) designed to improve wear resistance.

After approximately 5 years and 7 months of use, the wear measurements showed:
● Roller O.D. wear: 13.6 mm → 1.6 mm
● Roller bore wear: 16.7 mm → 3.3 mm
● Bushing O.D. wear: 7.1 mm → 1.4 mm

In all cases, wear was reduced to one-fifth or less of the conventional specification.

While the conventional chain had reached the end of its service life due to wear, Test Spec was assessed as suitable for continued use.

In the transport of electric vehicles, there is a shift from the conventional single-tire transport to double-tire transport in order to prevent the generation of back electromotive force due to the difference in rotation between the left and right axles. 🔎 Solution Case Study: Reducing chain wear elongation in vertical conveying of very hard powder

Chain wear elongation occurs as the pins and bushings slide against each other when the chain engages with the sprocket. In this application, very hard powder entered the space between the chain pins and bushings, causing wear elongation to increase considerably over a short period of time.

To address this issue, Tsubaki’s Large size conveyor chain FB Specification was adopted.

The FB Specification uses a solid lubricant between the pin and bushing, together with a sealing mechanism that prevents conveyed material from entering the space between the pin and bushing and prevents the solid lubricant from leaking out. These features help suppress wear elongation.

As a result, the chain replacement interval in this application was extended from less than two years to 5.5 years.
