It’s not everyday a Datsun 1600 is transformed into one of the fastest NA Time Attack cars in the world. Kitted with AMB Aero’s Pro Racer + package, this small 1971 Bluebird 510 is on rails and powered by ex-Kelly Racing Nissan V8 (stroked 6L Australian Supercar motor), features an Albins transaxle hidden behind the large rear diffuser, as well as Ohlins suspension, carbon brakes, a full Motec suite, custom centrelock wheels and all the motorsport bits you’d expected from a build at this level. Driver Time Slade was able to lap a 1:23.304 , an unheard of performance for a team’s first outing at WTAC, securing them a podium spot during their first World Time Attack Challenge 🥉 Outgunned in terms of power, the team plans to return in 2027 with a supercharger, and address other low hanging fruit in sight.

TANUKI SWEEPS QUEENSLAND RACEWAY 🏆
Queensland Raceway in Ipswich runs four different circuit layouts. The Tanuki S13 just took the outright record on all four of them in a single campaign.

⏱️ National Circuit: 1:02.622

⏱️ Clubman Circuit: 47.755
⏱️ Sportsman Circuit: 44.609

Locally the sweep is known as "King of QR" — the benchmark every workshop in the state measures itself against, at what is the spiritual home of motorsport for the region. Tanuki Racing and GT Auto Garage now hold it outright.

The car makes 1080hp, but the story is what keeps it on the ground: AMB Aero's Pro Racer Plus package, with full underbody tunnels feeding an evolution of the Infinity Wing. Downforce is what turns power into lap time, and QR's mix of long straights and slow corners punishes any car that only has one of the two.

The chassis itself is a piece of Australian time attack history. Built as the MCA Hammerhead, it was raced by Shane van Gisbergen, Earl Bamber, Warren Luff and Andre Heimgartner, and won Pro Class at World Time Attack in 2016 and 2017. Rebuilt as Tanuki, it won WTAC outright last year in the hands of Todd Hazelwood. It is quicker today than it has ever been.

QR was the preparation. Sydney Motorsport Park and the outright record is the target.

The FARO Creaform HandyScan Black Elite series not only fit in our carry on luggage - but brought a level of performance and accuracy we could be more than confident in. A quick set up time and ease of use made scanning the AMB aero kitted cars a breeze, giving us more time to take in the Swiss scenery 🙌

Driver sat down with and discussed what it’s like to pilot the ‘Pro Racer Plus’ kitted Nissan. The 2025 WTAC champions continue to develop the car as they prep to return to Sydney Motorsport Park for another go at 2026!
