An oath taken on the Bible seems to bind only the poor, as many legislators swear by it but later betray their promises. While citizens expect honesty, Members of Parliament often take the oath of allegiance only to break it, lying in broad daylight as they serve their interests over the public's. This hypocrisy is disheartening, as those in power face no consequences for dishonesty, while ordinary people are held accountable for much less. The sacredness of the oath is undermined, leaving many feeling that it holds no real weight for those in high office.
