The Nyahera mentorship summit 1.0 held at Ogada Secondary School on December 14, 2024, was a resounding success, fostering valuable insights for Form 4 leavers.
In collaboration with multiple prestigious organizations such as Precious Seed Afrika, the Association of Consulting Engineers of Kenya Future Leaders, the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, O'Learn, and Beacon Teachers Afrika, the event focused on empowering students with knowledge about college applications, career choices in STEM-related fields, and life after high school.
The occasion was graced by a distinguished group of speakers and mentors, including past and present leaders from the Association of Consulting Engineers of Kenya Future Leaders, local government representatives, and experts from various sectors.
1. The Importance of Planning Early for College Applications and Careers
Students were encouraged to start thinking about their future well in advance. Eng. John Robert Otieno Ogallo, Eng. Lawrence Kogadah, and Dr. Patrick Oyaro shared insights on how to navigate the college application process, emphasizing the importance of understanding admission requirements and deadlines. They also stressed the significance of choosing the right course based on personal interests and strengths, especially in STEM fields. With guidance on scholarships and financial planning, students were reminded to be proactive in exploring opportunities.

The discussions led by professionals like Eng. John Jairo and Mr. Robert Omwa emphasized the diverse career pathways in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Students learned about the relevance of STEM courses in today's job market, and how they can lead to fulfilling careers in engineering, technology, healthcare, and beyond. Eng. Otieno Ogallo and Eng.
