had the privilege of hosting learners from the Okiri Digital& Financial Literacy Program by Soulevement Kenya. This program does vital work supporting young people, and we were honored to contribute to their journey by opening our doors to the world of fabrication and engineering.

During the educational visit, our team led a guided tour of the hub, demonstrating:
⚙️ The Hardware Space: Exploring how ideas turn into tangible products.
🤖 Machine Demos: Seeing our fabrication tools in action.
💡 Digital Fabrication: Understanding the bridge between coding and creation.

For many, this was a first-hand look at how digital literacy can be applied in the hardware and tech space to solve real-world problems. The educational tour was a reminder of why access to these spaces is so critical, yet not an opportunity and reality for many youths.

Want to bring your group to FabLab?
We are open for educational tours! Whether you are a school, a youth group, or an innovation program, come see what’s possible at FabLab Winam.

FABLAB WINAM KE , is an official 2026 Node for the global Fab Academy program, pioneered by the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms. This isn't a passive, online theory class. It's an intense, hands-on journey where a global cohort of over 100 innovators learn by building a complex project every single week.

Our engineer and staff member Charles Wangara has been in the thick of the action. From Electronic Production to turning digital designs into physical reality—specifically focusing on PCB design, milling, and stuffing.

Charles’s experience highlights the intersection of international learning and local application here in Kisumu. Reflecting on the challenges, he shares:

“This week is about precision. We are moving from simulation to physical reality—designing circuit boards programmatically, setting up the milling machine to carve out copper traces with micron-level accuracy, and then stuffing the components. It’s one thing to simulate a circuit; it’s another to hold a board you milled yourself, troubleshoot it with a multimeter, and see it boot up for the first time.”

Charles's journey is proof that Fab Academy builds more than just technical skills. It builds the discipline to manage complex workflows, source components locally, and operate high-end machinery—skills that he brings right back to our community.

Want to see what’s possible when you connect a global network of makers with local talent? Follow along as Charles and the rest of the 2026 Fab Academy cohort continue to build the future, one board, one project, and one week at a time.

Let's walk this journey together and witness the global impact in our makerspace.

From a makerspace to a county-wide impact zone – that’s the power of collaboration.

For 20 intense days, FABLAB WINAM KE partnered with Corporate Career Academy to deliver the NYOTA (National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement) Project Lot 2 across all Kisumu County.

The mission?

To equip hundreds of young trainees with socio-emotional skills development – self-awareness, resilience, teamwork, communication – the invisible engine behind any successful on-job experience.

And what did we see?

Youths showing up in numbers. Not just to listen, but to learn, unlearn, and rebuild. They came early, asked sharp questions, practiced empathy, and left with a toolkit that will shape their futures. That alone was powerful.

This was the sweet spot. Seeing trainees sharpen their discipline, teamwork, and resilience through the sit in sessions to the out door practical sessions. It was an icing on the cake seeing the trainees graduate.

A sincere thank you to Corporate Career Academy for trusting us as your implementing partner on the ground. Your vision for the NYOTA Project is building a pipeline of work-ready, emotionally intelligent, and practically skilled talent right here in Lake Region. This collaboration was seamless because you understand that future-proofing youth requires both heart and hardware.

Extensive gratitude to The World Bank and the Ministry of Youth Affairs Creative Economy and Sports

To the youth of Kisumu—from Kisumu Central to Nyando, Seme to Muhoroni—you showed up.

To creators, makers, and dreamers:

If you are a young person in Kisumu with an idea burning in your chest—whether you just completed NYOTA or you are hearing about us for the first time—come interact with Fablab Winam.

✅ Walk in for a tour of our makerspace.

✅ Bring your sketch, your problem, or your prototype.

✅ Ask us about our membership plans, bootcamps, and technical mentorship.

Don't just prepare for the future. Build it.

There is something powerful about sitting down with a brother in the same mission. Our Director Martin Oloo, paid a courtesy visit to Sustainable Rural Initiative (SRI) to reconnect with James Odhiambo—not just as sector colleagues, but as friends navigating the makerspace ecosystem together.

What followed was a remarkable facility tour led by James, where we witnessed firsthand the incredible growth, innovations and creativity SRI is deploying within the community. From their recent projects to the intentional design woven throughout their space, it was clear: the work they are doing is not just impactful—it is transformational.

The visit served as a refreshing pause for our MD, a reminder that even amidst the demands of business and operations, stepping back to reconnect with kindred spirits offers a new perspective. Sometimes, the best ideas and energy come from simply checking in on each other.

Thank you for the warm welcome and the inspiration, James Odhiambo. Here is to more collaborations, shared growth, and a makerspace community that keeps showing up for each other.

This International Women's Day, we’re celebrating the power of sharing to build a stronger future.

This years theme, , resonates deeply with our spirit at FABLAB WINAM KE. True innovation isn't a solo journey—it's built on collaboration, mentorship, and open access. When we give our time, our skills, or our voice, we all gain a more equitable and inventive community.

At our hub, we see this every day. Women makers, artisans, and entrepreneurs share ideas in the lab, prototype solutions using digital fabrication, and lift each other up. We're not just building projects; we're building pathways for the next generation of women in STEM and local manufacturing.

Together, through sharing knowledge and tools, we can accelerate gender equality and create a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to build, innovate, and lead.

As we begin the journey into 2026, I’ve been reflecting on our December FabKids Bootcamp. It was a powerful reminder that when you give a child the right environment and the right tools, "impossible" isn't in their vocabulary.

I’ve often said that kids have "Elephant Minds"—they absorb knowledge with incredible speed, think without the constraints of "the real world," and turn abstract ideas into tangible solutions.

Watching them navigate coding, robotics, and 3D printing with such confidence reminded me that innovation doesn't have an age limit. It starts the moment a child is curious enough to ask, "How does this work?" and brave enough to try and build it.

To the parents: Thank you for trusting us with your children’s bright minds. Seeing their growth was the highlight of my 2025.

To our future learners: The lab is ready for you. We are stepping into 2026 with a mission to foster more growth, more curiosity, and more innovation.

Happy New Year to you all. Let’s make 2026 a year of building!
