Why aerial marker balls are used in transmission lines
Ever wondered what are the balls that hang on power lines? They are called visibility marker balls. You'll often find them near mountain passes, in the deep valley areas, near major freeway crossings and around airports.

The marker balls are colorful and are placed on power lines to make the conductor crossings visible to low flying aircraft/ objects.

They allow the electrical wires to be noticeable due to their bold colors. The most used color is orange, but you may also see red, yellow and even white marker balls.

The marker balls on transmission lines are mainly used in 3 areas;
1) Hilly Area - This ball is mostly used on transmission lines used in hilly areas.

2) Long span – The meaning of long span is where there is more distance between two electrical poles. There we use the marker ball. The condition of the long span is mostly seen in a line crossing a river pond.

3) Near runway - The area around our airports from where airplanes take off and land.
