ZAMBIA: 500MW Copperbelt Solar Project Secures 25-year PPA

Zambia’s state utility ZESCO has signed a 25 year PPA with Hungary based EnerSynk Group for a 500MW solar PV project in Copperbelt Province, valued at approximately USD 519 million. The project is planned in three phases: 300MW within 16 months, 100MW within 22 months and 100MW within 28 months.

Zambia had about 841MW of operational solar capacity by mid 2026, meaning the project represents roughly 60% of the existing solar base. Financial close, technical studies, environmental approvals and construction remain ahead.

The PPA strengthens Zambia’s utility scale solar pipeline and creates opportunities for solar developers, EPC contractors, module/inverter suppliers, grid infrastructure companies, financiers, O&M providers and local suppliers. It also supports diversification from Zambia’s hydro dominated power system and growing Copperbelt mining demand.

CHAD: GASSI & LAMADJI Solar Projects reach Financial Close

Qair’s Gassi and Lamadji projects in N’Djamena have reached financial close, unlocking €37.9 million for two hybrid solar plants totaling 30 MWp PV + 8 MWh BESS.

The projects will operate under a 20 year PPA with Tchadelec and are expected to generate 65 GWh/year, supporting electricity supply for about 260,000 people.

The transaction opens opportunities for Solar PV, batteries, EPC, grid integration, transmission, O&M and project finance companies, while establishing a model for bankable renewable projects in Chad and other high-risk African markets.
