We are consultants in Renewable Energy Technologies and Climate Change subjects including but not limited to Mitigation, Adaptation, REDD+ and Global Warming causes and effects. We embrace the Green Economy - at the visionary level, UNEP (2011) considers the green economy as: “An economy that results in improved human well-be
ing and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities.”
The United Nations Environment Management Group - EMG Report (2011) points out that at the operational level the green economy is seen as one whose growth in income and employment is driven by investments that:
• Reduce carbon emissions and pollution;
• Enhance energy and resource efficiency;
• Prevent the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services. These investments need to be catalyzed and supported by targeted public expenditure, policy reforms and regulation changes to create the so called “enabling conditions” for a green economy. We concur that the state has to safeguard her citizens and give room for equitable distribution of resources e.g energy, water etc. However, we acknowledge that these initiatives such as rural electrification are not reaching some of the communities at the base of the pyramid at the the intended pace. Therefore, some development practitioners such as Resourceful iNtellect bridge the gaps. We know that portable solar systems are not the long term solutions to clean energy access but we provide quality gadgets that give upto seven years of service in the short term.
