For many of us, getting a glass of clean water takes only a few seconds, but for millions of women and children around the world, it can take hours: It begins with a journey for water.

In many rural communities, women and children spend 30 minutes to several hours every day walking to the nearest water source. Some travel 3 to 10 kilometres, often making multiple trips under the hot sun, across rough terrain, and through challenging conditions. And when they finally reach water, the journey is only half complete.
A full 20-litre jerrycan weighs approximately 𝟐𝟎 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬. For many children, that is more than half of their own body weight. Carrying this load day after day places tremendous strain on their growing bodies, leading to fatigue, back pain, and long-term health challenges. But the greatest burden is not the weight itself: It is the opportunities lost.
Every hour spent collecting water is an hour that cannot be spent in the classroom. Children arrive late, miss lessons, or stay home altogether. Girls are especially affected, as they often bear the responsibility of fetching water for their families.

For women, those same hours could have been spent earning an income, running a business, farming, caring for their families, or participating in their communities.

When safe water is brought closer to communities, everything changes.
✔️ Children spend more time learning and less time walking.
✔️ Women gain valuable time to work, care for their families, and pursue economic opportunities.
✔️ Families experience better health through access to safe drinking water.
✔️ Communities become stronger, healthier, and more resilient.

Safe water is more than a basic necessity. It is the foundation for healthier families, stronger communities, and sustainable development.

Together, we can reduce the weight of water. Every investment, every partnership, and every water project brings us one step closer to a future where women and children spend less time carrying water and more time reaching their full potential.

A New Flow of Hope: WaterKiosk Africa's First Project in Mozambique 💧 👏

Imagine living in a community where access to clean water isn't a guarantee, but a daily challenge.
Today, that reality is changing for the people of Funhalouro, Mozambique.

We are proud to celebrate the successful installation of a 6,000 liter per hour water desalination system in Funhalouro, marking WaterKiosk Africa's first project in Mozambique.

Working alongside our partner, Boreal Light GmbH, the manufacturer of this innovative water treatment solution, we've taken another step toward our shared mission of making safe, reliable drinking water accessible to underserved communities across Africa.

In a region where water scarcity has been a long-standing challenge, this system will provide thousands of liters of safe water every hour, creating lasting benefits for families, schools and local livelihoods.

A special thank you to Frankline Mwangi for his outstanding work in leading the installation and training the local operator. His expertise and dedication have helped ensure the system is not only operational but that the community has the knowledge to manage it sustainably for years to come.

We look forward to building on this achievement, strengthening partnerships and delivering many more sustainable water projects that transform lives across the country and the continent.

Every new installation is a reminder that clean water is more than a basic need; it's the foundation for healthier communities, stronger economies and brighter futures.

Here's to many more milestones in Mozambique. 🌍💙

💧 Operator Spotlight

This week, we celebrate Newton Maseke, the operator at our WaterKiosk, Mombasa County.

Newton's greatest pride isn't just operating a water kiosk; it's the trust he has built with the community. By ensuring a reliable supply of safe drinking water and serving every customer with respect and care, he has become a familiar and dependable face to the people of Chaani.

Like every professional, Newton's journey has been one of continuous learning. He recalls a memorable moment when a customer asked detailed questions about the water desalination equipment. Still new to the role, he realized he didn't have all the answers. Instead of letting that experience discourage him, he took it as an opportunity to learn. Today, that lesson reminds him of the importance of understanding the technology behind the service he provides and being ready to educate others.

Working at the kiosk has transformed Newton's life. He has gained valuable skills, built meaningful relationships, earned a livelihood and developed qualities of responsibility, discipline and integrity. He has also discovered an important truth about business: there are good days and challenging days, but consistency, patience and commitment always make the difference.

Newton also has an important message for the community:

"Water is life, but clean and treated water is even more valuable. By choosing safe water, families protect themselves from waterborne diseases and build healthier futures."

Thank you, Newton, for your commitment to delivering safe water and making a lasting impact in your community. Your dedication reminds us that true water champions don't just provide water; they build trust, improve lives and inspire healthier communities.

Water is life, but safe water is opportunity!

Every day, millions of people depend on water to drink, cook, grow food and support their families. Yet when that water is unsafe, it becomes a barrier instead of a resource.

Safe water is not just an essential service; it is the foundation upon which healthier families, stronger communities and sustainable development are built.

At WaterKiosk Africa, we believe that every reliable source of safe water creates new possibilities for individuals, families, and future generations.

Because when clean water flows, opportunity follows.

Four years later... still delivering 💧 👏

This week, we had the privilege of visiting the Solar Water Desalination System we commissioned at Level 5 Hospital in March 2022. It was truly impressive to find the system still operating reliably, spotlessly clean, functioning perfectly and looking as though it had been installed just last week.

Designed to strengthen water security for one of the region's busiest referral hospitals, the system continues to produce over 20,000 litres of hygiene water every day, supporting quality healthcare through a dependable supply of clean water.

Its excellent condition reflects the importance of quality engineering, proper operation and routine maintenance. It's always rewarding to see infrastructure continue delivering value years after commissioning.

At WaterKiosk Africa, we don't just install systems; we build solutions designed to serve communities and institutions for the long term.

The Weight of Water in Children!

While many children begin their day with books and backpacks, millions in rural communities begin theirs searching for water. Every kilometre walked is time lost from the classroom, energy taken from learning and childhood slowly slipping away.

The weight they carry isn't just water; it's missed opportunities, delayed dreams and a future held back by something as basic as access to clean water.

When clean water is brought closer to home, children don't just carry less; they gain more: more time to learn, more time to play and a better chance to build the future they deserve.

No child should have to choose between water and education.

Let's work together to lift The Weight of Water.

💧 Operator Spotlight!

Behind every drop of safe water is a dedicated individual working tirelessly to ensure communities have reliable access to this essential resource.

Today, we're proud to shine a spotlight on one of our operators from Old Town Kiosk. Through this role, she has not only built meaningful relationships with customers but have also gained skills, supported their family and witnessed firsthand the positive impact that access to safe water has on the community.

Her message to the community is simple yet important:
"I encourage everyone to continue using safe, clean water to protect themselves and their families from diseases caused by unsafe drinking water."

Today, we celebrate her dedication, resilience and commitment to improving lives, one drop at a time.

The Weight of Water is often carried by women.

In many rural communities, women and girls are the primary water collectors, often walking long distances every day to fetch water for their families. What may seem like a routine chore is, in reality, a significant burden that affects nearly every aspect of their lives.

Every journey to collect water means less time for:
✔️ Income-generating activities that could improve household livelihoods.
✔️ Caring for children, elderly family members and the home.
✔️ Tending farms or small businesses that support family income.
✔️ Participating in community meetings, leadership and social activities.
✔️ Rest and personal well-being after long hours of physical labour.

The impact extends beyond the individual. When women spend hours each day collecting water, families lose valuable time, communities lose economic potential and future opportunities become harder to reach.

Bringing clean, safe water closer to home changes this reality. It gives women back their time, reduces physical strain, improves health and opens doors to education, entrepreneurship and stronger community participation.

Access to clean water isn't just about meeting a basic need; it's about unlocking opportunity, empowering women and building more resilient communities.
Together, we can help lift The Weight of Water.

💧 A New Chapter for Mbananga Village, Kitui County!

Access to clean water transforms lives and we're proud to celebrate another milestone in making that a reality.
On behalf of JaGedo, we successfully installed a solar-powered desalination system with a production capacity of 2,000 liters per hour at a school in Mbananga village, Kitui County. The completion of this water kiosk marks a significant milestone in ensuring pupils, teacher and the surrounding community have reliable access to safe, potable water.
The impact goes beyond the technology.

Reliable access to clean water means:
✔️ Improved health through safe drinking water.
✔️More time for families to focus on education, farming, and livelihoods instead of long journeys to collect water.
✔️A climate-friendly solution that reduces operating costs through solar energy.
✔️Stronger community ownership, with local stakeholders actively involved in the project's completion and handover.

Seeing community members gather to celebrate the completion of the kiosk is a reminder that infrastructure is most meaningful when it improves everyday lives.
This project reflects what's possible when innovation, sustainability and community partnership come together to address one of the most fundamental human needs.

Here's to cleaner water, healthier communities and a more resilient future for Mbananga.
