Still lacking reliable electricity from the grid, many Africans turn to other sources

Electricity is a basic prerequisite for human development. The United Nations (UN) highlight “access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for all” as its Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 7 (United Nations Development Programme, 2019). Electrification powers the provision of resources for economic transformation and improved living conditions, especially for poor people (Blimpo & Cosgrove-Davies, 2019).

Energy production and financial analysis of photovoltaic energy plants in Ivory Coast

This paper reports on the economic and financial calculations related to the energy production of a standard 20 kW photovoltaic plant connected to the electric network and located in Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire). Its economic profitability in terms of economic returns of the electricity production is calculated by using capital budgeting techniques.

Energy Sustainability in Morocco

Morocco imports 96% of its energy, threatening its energy security. To combat this, 2,000 MW each of solar, wind, and hydroelectric power are planned. Energy conservation efforts have been initiated with mixed success. This report outlines Morocco’s energy strategy, evaluating its successes and failures. Recommendations were made to reduce energy use, implement local-scale projects, pursue global collaboration, and promote research and development in renewable technology. This report will guide Ribat Al Fath in influencing Moroccan energy policy.

Integrated Sustainable Energy for Sub‐Saharan Africa: A Case Study of Machinga Boma in Malawi

Nearly 60% of the population of sub-Saharan Africa still live without access to electricity. Comparing the access rate of the countries in the region, Malawi ranks as one of the least electrified, with electricity available to only 14.6% of its population, as of 2018. This issue makes Malawi the case study of this research and poses the research question, “How can the low electricity access rate in Malawi be addressed?”.
