Somewhere, right now, a woman is lighting a stove. But what powers that flame; and what it means for her life, can be two very different stories.

For millions of women, cooking is more than a daily routine; it is time spent gathering fuel, exposure to harmful smoke, and hours that could otherwise be used for education, business, or rest. Yet across the clean cooking sector, women are not only the primary users of cooking solutions; they are innovators, entrepreneurs, technicians, community mobilizers, and leaders transforming how households cook and live.

This International Women’s Day, the Clean Cooking Association of Kenya celebrates the women who are shaping the future of clean cooking across the value chain. From women manufacturing and distributing improved cookstoves, to those leading clean energy enterprises, conducting research, influencing policy, and driving adoption in communities, their contributions are powering real change.

And lest we forget; Clean cooking is also a gender equality issue. When households transition to cleaner cooking solutions, women and girls spend less time collecting fuel, experience better health outcomes, and gain more opportunities to participate in education, employment, and leadership. The ripple effects extend to entire communities.

However, meaningful progress requires intentional inclusion. Integrating Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) into clean cooking initiatives ensures that the transition leaves no one behind. Women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups must not only benefit from clean cooking solutions but also have equal opportunities to participate in the sector as entrepreneurs, decision-makers, and innovators.

At the Clean Cooking Association of Kenya, we continue to champion an inclusive clean cooking ecosystem; one that recognizes the central role of women and actively creates pathways for diverse voices to shape the sector.

Today, we celebrate the resilience, leadership, and innovation of women across the clean cooking space.

to all the incredible women driving the clean cooking movement forward.

As we celebrate today, we must also ask ourselves: what more can we do to ensure the clean cooking transition is truly inclusive for every woman and every community?

What really makes a market? 🤔

Is it the buyer? Is it the seller? demand? Pricing? The people? The passion behind the product? The price?.....

Well… come find out! Catch Elly Odhiambo as he takes us through practical, eye-opening sessions on marketing, costing, and pricing of clean cooking products and services. Even better; hear what participants in Meru County actually think what makes a market. (You might be surprised 😉)

Still thinking about joining CCAK? Are you really sure you want to miss out?

Let’s have a conversation about why being part of CCAK matters for you and the clean cooking ecosystem. 📞 Call me on 0701 177 521, let’s talk!

Last week, our team traded boardrooms for training halls and headed to The Taita Taveta County Government to roll up our sleeves on what truly accelerates clean cooking adoption: people, skills, and inclusive opportunity.

Under the A2CT project, which is a Ministry of Energy, Kenya project designed to support Universal Access to clean cooking, implemented by a consortium of three organizations i.e. SNV_Kenya, the Clean Cooking Association of Kenya(CCAK) and Gamos East Africa with support from UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions). We worked closely with artisans, community-based organizations, women groups, and youth groups to strengthen the business backbone of the clean cooking value chain. The focus went beyond technical know-how to practical entrepreneurship-enterprise organization, market engagement, growth planning, and sustainability, while embedding Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion principles to ensure no group remained on the margins of this transition.

Through interactive sessions and grounded discussions, capacity gaps identified earlier in the ecosystem mapping were translated into actionable skills. Artisans and CBOs sharpened their business models and coordination approaches, while women and youth explored viable entry points into clean cooking enterprises, gaining the confidence and clarity needed to participate meaningfully in local and institutional markets.

By the end of the mission, we had not only strengthened enterprise readiness and inclusive leadership within the county’s clean cooking ecosystem, but also, as the Clean Cooking Association of Kenya(CCAK), intentionally deepened participants’ Business Development Services (BDS) competencies, equipping them with practical tools for enterprise structuring, financial sustainability, market positioning, and growth planning. This deliberate focus on BDS ensured that the trained groups are now better positioned to operate viable clean cooking enterprises, engage competitively in emerging markets, and sustain their participation in the county’s clean cooking transition well beyond the project lifecycle.
