🔥 **Another reminder of the growing fire risk associated with e-bikes and electric scooters.**

A fire broke out in a parking area containing motorcycles and electric scooters in Hangzhou, China.

As the use of electric motorcycles and scooters increases, building owners and facility managers should seriously review **where these vehicles are parked and, more importantly, where their lithium-ion batteries are being charged.**

Where practicable, **dedicated charging areas should be located outdoors or physically separated from occupied buildings, escape routes and combustible materials.**

If charging must be provided indoors, the area should be properly designed with appropriate fire detection and suppression systems, controlled charging equipment, adequate separation and emergency procedures.

⚠️ Lithium-ion battery fires can develop rapidly and may spread from one vehicle to another.

**The question is no longer simply “Do we provide EV charging?” — but “Where and how are we providing it safely?”**
