Transformer loss mainly has two components: no-load loss and load loss.

results from the steel materials, used for magnetising core laminations. It includes hysteresis and eddy current loss, dielectric loss and copper loss due to no-load current.
arises from the resistive components, usd for building the primary and secondary windings. It comprises I^2R loss of windings, loss due to eddy current and stray loss in the tank and core clamp.
