MG Pacific Company Limited is the company that produces and sells premium paper-based products which have many products including Round Sugarcane Plate, Facial Tissues, Wet Wipes, Hand Towe
l Paper, Toilet Papers, Jumbo Roll Paper, Visa Paper Roll, Bond Paper Roll, ATM Receipt Paper roll, thermal paper roll and…. Socheat”), Managing Director and the founder of MG Pacific Company Limited (“the Company”), was started in 2015, but before that he only worked for some of Cambodia’s largest companies. With big ambitions and wishing his home country to have high quality and expensive products, Mr. Socheat has been carefully considering the establishment of the Company and the MG brand as of 2013. Later, in 2015, the Company was established as a sole proprietorship under the name “MG Brothers” and was transformed into a limited liability company in 2017 as MG Pacific Company Limited. Socheat's salary and a mortgage on his house at the bank and he started with only four employees while he also had to do all the work himself. Although the Company has gone through some struggles to survive to this day, there is also the financial support of one of his Japanese friends. Socheat named his tradename MG, where the letter M means in Khmer “Mean” (Which in English means “Exist”), and the letter G means Grob (Which in English means “Sufficient”). Socheat that in the future, this Cambodian company will grow and have branches or subsidiaries everywhere in the Pacific.
2. BRANDING CONCEPT
Every product of the Company is always linked to the culture and way of life of the Cambodian people. In addition to producing high-quality products, in 2023, the Company has also updated a new box and packaging style of Rice and Mekong River Dolphin (Phsaaot), which rice is an important crop in Cambodia, and Mekong River Dolphins are an important symbolic species and a living natural heritage of Cambodia. The design of packaging and logo on MG products are in Khmer style, unlike foreign ones, and are unique, which should not be compared with foreign products. Through all of MG's products, Mr. Socheat wants to cultivate nationalist ideas and affirmed that not all quality and standard products are foreign products, in the name of the nation's human resources, we can also do our own geographical and national identity. The logo of MG was designed in green and gold color of MG letters which green refers to Supremacy and gold refers to Excellence. Notably, the narrow of the letter G refers to the prosperity of the Company. MG has registered its trademark with the DIP to protect its brand name. The Company applies and complies with all compliance obligations of all relevant ministries/institutions because the Company can protect itself and the Company believes that people have equal rights before the law and are entitled to equal protection by the law. Admittedly, MG’s unique characteristics are loyalty, struggle, and longevity. The Company’s mission is to provide good quality products and services with ease for every customer. More importantly, the Company opens for investors both locally and internationally, however, under any circumstances, if a foreign investor comes to cooperate, the Company must be the Khmer nationality company and the foreign share cannot exceed 49%.
3. MARKETING AIMS
The Company’s targeted customers are high class people, banks and luxurious hotels. Because its products are more expensive than imported products and competitive quality product, MG focuses its market on the rich people, supermarkets, banks and luxurious hotels. Socheat does the marketing by himself to various supermarkets such as AEON Mall, Lucky, Thai Huot etc. to promote his products, and in particular, he often participates in various events and meet with the owners of many companies, hotels and banks. So, during the participation of those events he always speaks and recommends his products to those people and companies. When those people start using its products, they are happy to use and will continue to use because of its quality and customers believe in this quality and understand the vision and purpose of MG. No matter what the circumstances, MG always stays loyal without compromising on quality to get the most out of it. That’s one of the reasons that its existing customers choose its products over its competitors. In addition to self-made handicrafts, MG has also cooperated with five other factories overseas, but in the future, when the market demand increases and there are exports abroad, the Company will develop production lines and set up and own a large-scale factory. Further, the Company imported over 90% of its raw materials coming from China and Indonesia, which is an element that the Company plan to change this inefficient process and wish to build a plant to produce all the paper for its products.
4. EFFECTIVENESS OF THE BRANDING
MG measures the brand’s success through consumption and orders have increased, especially in the last two years, the Company has achieved significant profits. Likewise, in 2020, MG won Country Star of the Year in Hanoi, Vietnam then recognized by the CSR Awards presented by the European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia 2021 and awarded by APAC Insider Magazine based in the UK as Most Innovative Paper–Based FMCG SME 2022 which are the remarkable achievements. In the same way, in order to maintain the quality of the product, the target, the vision and to maintain the Khmer nationality for the Company, the Company plans to be transformed to Listed Company and selling its shares to the public, however, the public as Cambodian citizen would be the first priority to be considered.
