🌬️ HVAC Duct Sizing Calculation 📐❄️

Correct duct sizing ensures proper airflow, low pressure loss, reduced noise, and improved HVAC system efficiency.

📘 Step 1: Calculate Duct Area

Duct Area (m²) = Airflow (m³/s) ÷ Air Velocity (m/s)

🧮 Example
🔹 Airflow = 3.0 m³/s
🔹 Design Velocity = 6 m/s

✅ Duct Area = 3.0 ÷ 6 = 0.50 m²

📘 Step 2: Select Duct Dimensions

Example rectangular duct:

🔹 Width = 1000 mm
🔹 Height = 500 mm

✅ Area = 1.0 × 0.5 = 0.50 m²

📋 Recommended Air Velocities
🌬️ Main Supply Duct: 5–8 m/s
🍃 Branch Duct: 3–5 m/s
🔄 Return Air Duct: 4–6 m/s
🌿 Fresh Air Duct: 3–5 m/s

📘 Round Duct Formula

Diameter (m) = √(4 × Area ÷ π)

For 0.50 m² area:

✅ Diameter ≈ 0.80 m (800 mm)

💡 Tip: After selecting the duct size, always verify the pressure drop, velocity, and noise level using the equal friction or static regain method before finalizing the HVAC design.
