E&CO Successfully Completed Commissioning of a Cryogenic Pump Test Facility

On January 12, 2026, E&CO Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “E&CO) successfully completed the commissioning of the cryogenic pump test facility at a client’s site in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea.

As the global energy transition accelerates, alternative fuels such as ammonia and methanol are gaining traction. Nevertheless, LNG remains the dominant fuel in the maritime sector, and cryogenic LNG pumps—operating at -162°C—are critical components in the LNG supply chain, particularly during the bunkering process. Despite this, only a few countries manufacture such equipment, leading most Korean facilities to rely on imported LNG pumps.

The client had secured core technologies and completed prototype development to localize LNG pump production but lacked the in-house infrastructure to verify pump performance through testing. Based on its EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Commissioning) expertise in cryogenic gas systems, E&CO undertook a review and enhancement of the completed basic design to establish the necessary testing infrastructure.

Following the design optimization, E&CO proceeded with detailed engineering and obtained all required permits, including KGS (Korea Gas Safety) technical reviews, mid-phase inspections, and final approvals for a high-pressure gas manufacturing facility. Simultaneously, the company managed equipment procurement, installation, construction supervision, and final commissioning.

With the successful completion of this test facility and its operational launch, the client is now positioned to accelerate technological development and performance validation of domestic LNG cryogenic pumps. E&CO’s contribution is expected to support broader localization efforts and strengthen the supply capacity for Korea’s LNG industry.
