한국남동발전은 2001년 4월 2일 한국전력공사에서 발전부문이 분리된 발전전문회사입니다. 신영흥화력건설본부는 영흥도에 영흥화력 #5,6호기를 건설중이며 추후 #7,8호기 건설이 예정되어 있습니다. 수도권 최대규모의 기저부하 발전소인 동시에 국내 최대 태양광, 풍력 등 신재생에너지의 메카이기도 합니다.
