Hylium Industry joins hands with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries

Signed a contract to develop technology related to liquefied hydrogen for ships
Hylium Industry, a company specializing in liquefied hydrogen, announced on the 19th that it signed a 'technology development contract for liquefied hydrogen storage and operation demonstration facilities for ships' with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

According to Hylium Industries, this company , HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering have decided to jointly develop technology for the design and production of liquefied hydrogen test tanks for ships, as well as test operation and performance evaluation technologies for liquefied hydrogen tanks. We also plan to secure the construction of an insulation system exclusively for liquefied hydrogen tanks and tank management technology, which are essential technologies for the design and operation of large liquefied hydrogen carriers. As a result, maritime transportation of liquefied hydrogen is expected to gain momentum.

Hylium Industrial is Korea's first company with liquefied hydrogen technology, founded in 2014 as a venture company of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology ( KIST ). We are focusing on liquefied hydrogen tanks, liquefied hydrogen drones, and hydrogen charging station businesses. Recently, Hylium Chart, a joint venture for the domestic production and supply of liquefied hydrogen tank trailers, was established with Chart Industries of the United States in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do.

Hylium Industries, Inc. and The Gas and Heat Institute Essen e.V. (GWI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at establishing a dynamic framework for future collaboration. The MOU outlines the shared goals and responsibilities of both parties.

The primary objective of this MOU is to lay the foundation for a mutually beneficial partnership that leverages the strengths and expertise of both organizations. Under this MOU Hylium Industries will explore opportunities to market its products in the German market, while GWI will receive technological support and expertise in the field of liquid hydrogen.

Scope of Collaboration:
The agreement encompasses a wide array of collaborative efforts, including technology provision and support for advancing the liquid hydrogen industry in Germany's early market stages. Additionally, the parties intend to establish a dedicated entity in Essen, Germany, for the commercialization of liquid hydrogen technology and liquid hydrogen-powered drones.

It is also with great enthusiasm that both parties commit to a robust exchange of knowledge and expertise among their respective engineering teams. This mutual sharing of know-how will serve as a cornerstone in realizing the full potential of this collaborative endeavor.

Hylium Industries will extend comprehensive technological expertise and support pertaining to liquid hydrogen, focusing on research and development during its early market phases. GWI will serve as the point of contact for Hylium Industries in matters related to liquid hydrogen business in Europe, spearheading the establishment of a promotional entity in Essen, Germany.

The MOU was signed by representatives of Hylium Industries, Inc. and The Gas and Heat Institute Essen e.V. in mutual affirmation of their commitment to this collaborative endeavor.

On the 6th of September, we celebrated the completion ceremony of Hylium Industries' new headquarters. Our CEO, Kim Seo-young, passionately declared the "globalization of liquefied hydrogen," setting the tone for a new chapter in hydrogen mobility.

The sprawling 8,264 m² facility, covering a total floor area of 4,958 m², is now poised to produce cutting-edge liquefied hydrogen-related products. Our former Osan factory has been transformed into a hydrogen drone production hub, aligning perfectly with our vision for a sustainable future powered by liquefied hydrogen.

CEO Kim exudes confidence as he envisions a world where Hylium Industries' technology contributes to the proliferation of hydrogen charging stations across the globe, including the United States and Australia, and where liquefied hydrogen drones take flight worldwide. 🌎

Hylium Industries is a trailblazer in liquefied hydrogen, boasting independently developed production, storage, and transportation safety technologies. Our impact is increasingly recognized not just domestically, but on the global stage.

Our technical partnership with Chart Industry of the United States has resulted in the manufacture of hydrogen liquefaction machines and liquefied hydrogen tank trailers capable of transporting 3 tons in Pyeongtaek. We are also experts in producing storage tanks ranging from 3 liters to 6,000 liters.

Our expansion knows no bounds, with a corporation established in California last year and a base in Shanghai, China. Our ambitions extend across the Atlantic Ocean, as we prepare for a journey from Senegal in Africa to Brazil in South America with the French Advanced Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (IASE SUPERO). We recently demonstrated a hydrogen-fueled drone in Essen, Germany, at the invitation of the city.

🎉 We would like to thank Aju Korea Daily for the opportunity to interview our CEO, Seo Young Kim, regarding the future of hydrogen as a mainstream fuel for heavy-duty vehicles and airplanes. Here's a brief summary of the interview:

In the interview, Kim Seo-young discussed the strides South Korea has taken in its "hydrogen economy" and the country's efforts to reduce its dependency on fossil fuels. Despite some setbacks due to public fear surrounding hydrogen explosions, Kim emphasized that handling hydrogen is not significantly different from handling liquefied natural gas (LNG) and that public perception can be improved over time.

Kim emphasized the importance of hydrogen-based power packs for heavy-duty trucks, trains, ships, and airplanes to travel long distances. Hylium aims to become a key player in the global hydrogen distribution sector while focusing on the distribution of compressed hydrogen charging stations and accelerating the adoption of liquid hydrogen stations.

Kim's vision for the future sees hydrogen becoming an ordinary fuel, akin to LPG used in taxis, with worldwide hydrogen adoption potentially achieved by around 2060. He emphasized the necessity of long-term planning for the hydrogen industry, given the significant energy transition it represents.
