SEBIT First Test Flight: Results Update

INNOSPACE conducted the first test flight of its multipurpose suborbital rocket ‘SEBIT’ at 16:30 on August 19 (BRT, UTC-3) at the Alcântara Space Center (CLA) in Brazil.

SEBIT ignited and lifted off normally from INNOSPACE’s own launch pad. During the flight, however, a deviation from the planned trajectory was detected. In accordance with the launch center’s safety regulations, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) activated the Flight Termination System (FTS) to terminate the flight early. The rocket came down within a designated maritime safety zone, with no injuries or property damage reported.

The test flight was conducted in cooperation with ALADA, a Brazilian state-owned company established to expand the commercial use of the country’s aerospace infrastructure. While we regret that the planned flight could not be fully completed, the test flight provided valuable flight data from key systems, including the launch pad, propulsion system, and guidance, navigation and control (GNC).

We sincerely thank everyone who has shown deep interest in and supported INNOSPACE’s challenge, and we regret that the planned flight could not be completed. We also extend our deepest appreciation to ALADA, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), and all INNOSPACE team members who worked closely and tirelessly throughout the launch campaign.

The data and experience secured from this flight will provide an important foundation for SEBIT’s performance improvement and further development. INNOSPACE will thoroughly analyze the secured data to identify the cause and reflect the findings in subsequent procedures and improvements, continuously enhancing SEBIT’s flight performance, reliability, and operational stability.

Countdown to ‘SEBIT’s First Test Flight Begins! 🚀

INNOSPACE has successfully completed the final Wet Dress Rehearsal (WDR) for its multipurpose suborbital rocket ‘SEBIT’ at the Alcântara Space Center in Brazil.

Following the same procedures as actual launch day, the rehearsal comprehensively checked everything from propellant loading to the launch control system, ground facilities, and vehicle-ground system integration, completing the final pre-launch preparations.

During SEBIT’s first test flight, INNOSPACE aims to comprehensively verify engine performance, flight characteristics, guidance, navigation and control, flight safety, and the ground operations system, while securing key flight data for future suborbital test and verification services.

• Launch Window: August 19 – August 28
• Launch Site: Alcântara Space Center, Brazil

The launch will take place at the Alcântara Launch Center (CLA), operated by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).

Fairing Acoustic & Vibration Test Completed 🔊

INNOSPACE has successfully completed the Fairing Acoustic & Vibration Test for HANBIT-Nano.

The test was conducted under acoustic vibration conditions representative of the launch environment to verify the structural integrity and acoustic insulation performance of the Payload Adapter Assembly and Fairing Assembly.

The test confirmed that the target acoustic load inside the fairing during launch was satisfied, verifying the fairing’s acoustic insulation performance.

This completes the performance verification of HANBIT-Nano under launch-representative conditions, further strengthening its technical readiness for launch.

SEBIT Completes Final Ground Qualification Test Ahead of First Flight! 🚀

INNOSPACE’s multipurpose suborbital rocket, SEBIT, has successfully completed its Stage Qualification Test.

On August 3, at the Geumsan Ground Test Facility in Korea, SEBIT’s 3-ton-thrust hybrid rocket engine operated for 83 seconds under flight-representative conditions, verifying propulsion system performance and stability. ⏱️🔥 The integrated operation of key systems, including the propellant feed system, primary structure, avionics, and flight control system, was also comprehensively evaluated.

With major domestic ground tests now complete, SEBIT is moving into on-site preparations for its first test flight at the Alcântara Space Center in Brazil. 🇧🇷

The first test flight is targeted for August 19, with a launch window from August 19 to 28.

The launch will take place at the Alcântara Launch Center (CLA), operated by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).

The time behind the scenes has been far longer than what the public has seen. ⏳

Great rocket engines are never built overnight.

INNOSPACE's methane engine has evolved through continuous cycles of design, testing, data analysis, and engineering refinement.

In 2024, INNOSPACE successfully completed a 237-second hot-fire test, establishing a solid technological foundation. The engine was further enhanced with dual-propellant regenerative cooling technology, improving both performance and reliability.

In 2026, INNOSPACE successfully completed Korea's longest 420-second ground hot-fire test, further demonstrating the engine's durability and reliability.

As of July 2026, INNOSPACE has completed 95 hot-fire tests, accumulating 2,787 seconds of combustion testing, continuously advancing its methane propulsion technology through extensive validation and real engineering data.

But this journey did not begin in 2024.

For more than two decades, Youngil Park, Managing Director (Research Director) of the Rocket Propulsion R&D Center at INNOSPACE, Principal Researcher WOOTAE CHEON, and a dedicated team of researchers have believed in the potential of methane propulsion. 👨‍🔬

Today's methane engine represents far more than engineering drawings and test results.

It is the result of decades of accumulated expertise, countless rounds of testing and validation, and the dedication of the engineers behind its development.

A Day of Discovering Space Technology Up Close! ✨
Students participating in the 2026 Youth Science Expedition visited the INNOSPACE Cheongju Campus.

Through various programs, including a launch vehicle education session, a campus tour, and a space quiz show, the students explored launch vehicle technology and learned more about the space industry. 🌌

They also had the opportunity to see the HANBIT-Nano launch vehicle, key propulsion systems, and major launch vehicle components up close, gaining a deeper understanding of how space launch technologies are developed.

INNOSPACE continues to engage with the next generation of engineers who will shape the future of the space industry, supporting the growth of future space talent.

Ahead of the second HANBIT-Nano mission, INNOSPACE unveiled the Payload Adapter (PLA) top plate engraved with the names of 265 employees, 37 investors, and 578 partner companies, along with the InnoSat-0 mass simulator bearing the inscription "THE FIRST SIGNAL."

The PLA is the final structure connecting the launch vehicle and its payload. Even after payload separation, it remains in orbit longer than any other structural component of the launch vehicle.

The inscription "THE FIRST SIGNAL" on the InnoSat-0 mass simulator symbolizes the first signal that INNOSPACE's first in-house developed satellite, InnoSat-0, will transmit from space, marking the beginning of a new journey.

Following the first HANBIT-Nano mission, INNOSPACE continues its unique launch culture by recording the people, partnerships, and shared achievements behind every mission.

South Korea–Brazil Space Cooperation Enters a New Phase 🇰🇷🇧🇷

On July 27, South Korea and Brazil signed a Space Cooperation MOU during the Korea–Brazil summit, strengthening collaboration across the space sector, including the simplification of launch procedures for Korean companies using Brazilian launch sites.🤝

In December 2025, INNOSPACE marked Korea’s first commercial space launch from Brazil’s Alcântara Space Center with HANBIT-Nano.
This milestone became a foundation for expanding cooperation between the two countries and advancing a more efficient launch environment.

By reducing administrative barriers and improving launch accessibility, this agreement is expected to create a more predictable pathway for commercial space launches.

Building on our experience at Alcântara Space Center, INNOSPACE will continue to expand international launch opportunities and deliver reliable space access for customers around the world. 🌎
