Working with Prague Airport 🇨🇿 & controllers from Czech Air Navigation Services 🇨🇿 & Austrocontrol 🇦🇹 on a real-time simulation of , the Surface Movement Awareness System 🛬.

👉 Part of the SESAR Joint Undertaking PEACOCK project, the simulation at the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub aimed to establish a generic safety case for , ensuring it meets stringent operational & safety requirements, supporting regional and strengthening the efficiency of the European network.

🧐 The conclusion? SMAS enhances controllers' situational awareness and confidence in managing complex traffic scenarios, even under challenging conditions. ✔️

2025 has also seen the finalisation of the EUROCONTROL SMAS specification standard, providing a clear framework for implementation across European airports.

➕ In addition, a shadow mode live trial at Liepaja Airport 🇱🇻 has validated performance under real operational conditions using ADS-B and WAM feeds, confirming seamless integration into tower operations.

Aligning on key priorities for cooperation 🤝 in European air traffic management ( ) at today's Military ATM Board ( ) meeting.

👉Supported by the Military Harmonisation Group ( ), the is a vital forum for ensuring military engagement in ATM/ANS matters, harmonising European military positions & guiding coordination within the Civil-Military Stakeholder Committee ( ).

Chaired by Col Ray Martin from Ireland, the – attended by senior military officers from across our Member States & representatives from key partners the European Commission, EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency, SESAR Joint Undertaking, the European Defence Agency & NATO – addressed key topics presented by the EUROCONTROL team, including:
🔑an update on our cooperation activities, by MajGen Karsten Stoye, Head of Civil-Military Cooperation ( )
🔑crisis management & military involvement in crisis exercises, by Steven Moore, Head of ATM Network Operations
🔑EUROCONTROL Network Manager ( ) activities through a military lens, by Razvan Bucuroiu, Head of Airspace and Capacity
🔑collaborative decision making ( ) & military performance by Jan Scholz, CMC
🔑 evolution for capacity & performance, by Jorge Pereira, CMC

Participants also heard from Predrag Vranjkovic, Head of EUROCONTROL's Strategy, Engagement & Institutional Relations unit, who briefed the on the Agency's led by Director General Raúl Medina, which places renewed emphasis on enhanced cooperation.
