trtworld ASA On August 4, 2020, one of the history's biggest non-nuclear explosions rocked Beirut, destroying swathes of the Lebanese capital, killing more than 220 people and injuring at least 6,500 others.

The massive explosion was caused by a fire in a warehouse where the industrial chemical ammonium nitrate had been poorly stored for several years. Its shick waves - heard as far away as Cyprus island - left a 43-metre-deep crater and registered the equivalent of a 3.3 magnitude earthquake.

Three years on, the corners of Beirut have been cleared of the debris, buildings have been restored and life has returned to streets once destroyed.
