The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Southern Asia Region (SAR) held its Annual Committee Meeting on 03rd March 2026 at Hotel Maagiri, Male, Maldives. 🌍🤝
The meeting was attended by SAR committee members from Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, and Nepal, reflecting the strong regional collaboration that continues to strengthen the engineering community across South Asia.
A key objective of the meeting was to enhance the presence of IMechE in the Maldives, one of the member countries in the Southern Asia Region. As part of this effort, IMechE SAR intends to support the establishment of an IMechE Student Chapter at Maldives National University (MNU), further expanding opportunities for student engagement and professional development.
This initiative follows the successful IMechE SAR outreach visit to Nepal in 2024, which resulted in the establishment of two active IMechE Student Chapters in Nepal. Building on that success, SAR aims to continue expanding its footprint and empowering future engineers across the region.
The meeting also included a special strategy session focused on shaping the vision and priorities for the next SAR term (2026–2029), as the term of the current office bearers concludes in May 2026.
