Healthy oceans are essential to life on Earth and protecting them requires action both in our oceans and on land.

Ocean Bound Plastic refers to abandoned plastic waste that is at risk of entering our oceans, making its collection and recovery a critical step in the fight against ocean pollution.

The OBP Certification Program certifies organizations involved in collecting, recycling, neutralizing, and responsibly using Ocean Bound Plastic, ensuring traceability and proof of origin throughout the value chain.

The program supports a range of stakeholders, including collectors, recyclers, neutralization service providers, plastic producers and users, and brands seeking to make credible sustainability claims.

Just a few days ago, during the ๐‘‰๐‘’๐‘ ๐‘Ž๐‘˜ season, we welcomed hundreds of visitors to our "๐Ž๐ง๐ž ๐’๐œ๐จ๐จ๐ฉ | ๐Ž๐ง๐ž ๐’๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ญ" community initiative.

People enjoyed a free ice cream to cool themselves, while taking home a fruit tree sapling to help cool the planet. What made this initiative even more meaningful was that the saplings distributed (in recycled paper bags) were largely underutilized fruit tree species, carefully selected to encourage biodiversity, food security, and greener urban spaces.

Today, as we celebrate ๐–๐จ๐ซ๐ฅ๐ ๐„๐ง๐ฏ๐ข๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ, we are proud to share the impact behind these smiles.

A total of ๐Ÿ,๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ข๐ญ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ž๐ž ๐ฌ๐š๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ representing nine species were distributed across Colombo. Based on internationally accepted IPCC carbon sequestration methodologies and conservative survival estimates, these trees have the potential to sequester approximately ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ‘.๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ž๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‚๐Žโ‚‚ ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ง๐ž๐ฑ๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ ๐ฒ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ฌ. Beyond carbon sequestration, they will provide shade, support biodiversity, produce nutritious fruits, and contribute to cooler, greener communities throughout the city.
