⚡ Knowledge Share #17 – Distribution Board (DB)
A Distribution Board (DB) is the heart of any electrical installation. It safely distributes electrical power to different circuits while protecting people and equipment from electrical faults.
Key Components:
🔹 Main MCB (32A) – Main power isolation and overload protection.
🔹 RCCB/ELCB (30mA) – Protects against electric shock and earth leakage.
🔹 MCBs (6A / 10A / 16A) – Protect individual lighting, socket, and power circuits.
🔹 Neutral Bar – Common return path for all neutral conductors.
🔹 Earth Bar – Provides a safe path for fault current to ground.
Best Engineering Practices:
✅ Use the correct MCB rating for each circuit.
✅ Always separate Neutral and Earth connections.
✅ Label every circuit for easy maintenance.
✅ Tighten terminals periodically to prevent overheating.
✅ Test the RCCB monthly using the TEST button.
