Today marks an important milestone for Eco-Energy's Solar Sewing for Women's Economic Empowerment Initiative in B**g County, Liberia.

On Friday, we proudly distributed 24 solar-powered sewing machines to the first group of women who successfully met the requirements for participation in our productive asset financing program.

This achievement represents the culmination of a structured enterprise development pathway—not simply the distribution of equipment.

The journey began with 50 women who enrolled in a three-month intensive tailoring skills training delivered in partnership with the Liberia Opportunities Industrialization Center (LOIC). At the end of the technical training, all participants underwent a competency assessment to evaluate their tailoring skills and readiness for the next stage.

Based on this assessment, 24 women met the minimum technical competency requirements and progressed to the Business Development and Entrepreneurship Training, where they received practical instruction in entrepreneurship, costing and pricing, recordkeeping, financial literacy, customer service, marketing, and enterprise management.

A key requirement of the business development program was the preparation of a viable business plan, and every participant successfully developed a business plan outlining how she intends to establish and grow her tailoring enterprise.

Before any machine was issued, Eco-Energy conducted a home verification and business readiness assessment for each participant. This assessment confirmed the availability of a suitable business location, household and guarantor support, enterprise readiness, and the participant's understanding of the financing and repayment arrangement.

Women who successfully completed each stage of this process and met the eligibility requirements were awarded solar-powered sewing machines to begin building sustainable tailoring businesses powered by clean energy.

Importantly, the official graduation ceremony for this cohort is still forthcoming. Completion of the technical training, successful participation in the business development program, submission of a viable business plan, and passing the business readiness assessment were the prerequisites for accessing the sewing machines.

This is only the first phase of the initiative.

The remaining 26 women successfully completed a targeted remedial tailoring program following the post-training technical assessment to strengthen areas where additional support was required. They will now enter the Business Development and Entrepreneurship Training, where they will also develop business plans, undergo the same home verification and business readiness assessments, and, upon meeting all eligibility requirements, will each receive a solar-powered sewing machine to launch their businesses.

At Eco-Energy, we believe productive assets should be earned through skills, preparation, and enterprise readiness. By combining technical training, entrepreneurship development, business planning, business readiness verification, and productive-use solar technology, we are building a sustainable pathway to women's economic empowerment rather than simply distributing equipment.

We are grateful to RUFORUM for supporting this initiative and to the Liberia Opportunities Industrialization Center (LOIC) for their invaluable partnership in delivering the technical and entrepreneurship training.

We look forward to celebrating the graduation of both cohorts in the near future and to supporting these women as they build resilient businesses that create income, jobs, and opportunities within their communities.

In February 2026, Eco-Energy, in collaboration with the Liberia Opportunities Industralization Center (LOIC), enrolled 50 women into a condensed tailoring program designed to move women beyond skills training and into real enterprise ownership.

The tailoring program has now been completed. Following a technical assessment, 48 women met all eligibility criteria for inclusion in a one-month Business Development Training Program. To make the training practical, focused, and results-driven, the women were grouped into two cohorts of 24 participants each.

Each cohort is being supported to complete the full enterprise-readiness cycle, including business planning, costing, pricing, customer targeting, recordkeeping, and the development of a suitable business name that can support formal registration with the Government of Liberia.

We are pleased to report that Cohort 1 has successfully completed the business development training. From June 19–20, 2026, Eco-Energy conducted home and business readiness assessments for all 24 women to verify their operating space, household support, business preparedness, and readiness to receive productive assets.

The assessment results are now being analyzed. On June 26, 2026, all eligible women from Cohort 1 will each receive a solar-powered sewing machine to launch their tailoring businesses.

This model reflects what Eco-Energy is building: productive-use solar solutions that do more than provide electricity. They create income, support women-owned businesses, expand local enterprise, and demonstrate how clean energy can unlock economic opportunity in underserved communities.

We extend our appreciation to RUFORUM Network and the Mastercard Foundation for supporting this initiative and helping us prove a practical model for women’s economic empowerment, skills-to-enterprise transition, and productive-use solar adoption in Liberia.

At Eco-Energy, we are not only distributing solar products. We are building pathways for livelihoods, ownership, and scalable community-level enterprise.

Today, we were pleased to welcome a delegation from the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) to Eco-Energy for a strategic engagement on our upcoming RUFORUM-supported solar-powered cold room project.

The meeting focused on how our solar-powered cold room can support Liberia’s fisheries sector by improving fish preservation, reducing post-harvest losses, strengthening market access, and increasing income opportunities for fish harvesters, fishmongers, and other actors across the fisheries value chain.

During the engagement, NaFAA’s Associate Director for Competent Authority & Quality Assurance emphasized the need for cold-chain solutions that do not only reduce post-harvest losses, but also help preserve fish in a way that meets quality and international market standards.

NaFAA expressed strong interest in the initiative and is eager to collaborate with Eco-Energy in advancing practical solutions for fish preservation, quality assurance, and fisheries sector development in Liberia.

We appreciate the NaFAA team for the visit and look forward to continued collaboration.

In preparation for the launch of a solar-powered fisheries cold storage facility in Buchanan, Eco-Energy has concluded site assessment and stakeholder engagement visits in Little Bassa and Fanti Town.

The engagement brought together fish harvesters, fish sellers, local leaders, and fisheries actors to better understand market needs, fish storage challenges, and suitable locations for the cold room.

This initiative is being designed as a practical market solution to help fish businesses keep fish fresh longer, reduce spoilage, protect income, and sell with better timing.

Eco-Energy is bringing clean energy closer to real market needs.

When we started this tailoring program in B**g County, we didn’t just see 50 women.
We saw 50 economic stories waiting to change.

Our baseline data was honest and sobering:

• 42% are single mothers carrying full household responsibility
• 76% are youth (18–35 years)
• Average monthly income: just USD 28
• Most were using manual machines, producing fewer than 5 garments per week

That is survival-level income. Not growth. Not stability.

Today?
The training is progressing powerfully.

Inside the classroom and workshops, these women are:

✔ Producing structured school uniforms
✔ Mastering measurement and finishing techniques
✔ Learning pricing, bookkeeping, and customer management
✔ Building real, scalable microenterprises

And by the end of April, we will celebrate something bigger than graduation.
