VACANCY: SHIP HULL FITTER

Projects: Shipbuilding & Ship Repair
Location: Lithuania & EU projects
Rate: €10–17 per hour, depending on project, experience and qualification

We are looking for experienced Ship Hull Fitters to join our shipbuilding and ship repair projects.

A Ship Hull Fitter is responsible for assembling, fitting and preparing steel ship structures in accordance with shipbuilding drawings and technical documentation. The work includes fabrication, fitting and preparation of hull sections before welding while ensuring dimensional accuracy and compliance with shipbuilding quality standards.

Main Responsibilities:
* assembling ship hull sections according to technical drawings;
* fitting and aligning steel plates, profiles and structural components;
* marking, measuring and preparing materials for assembly;
* tack welding (111 / 136) when required;
* gas cutting, grinding, beveling and edge preparation;
* checking dimensions and geometry of assembled structures;
* using hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment;
* preparing structures for welding and inspection;
* maintaining quality standards and following production procedures;
* complying with health, safety and environmental requirements.

Requirements:
* proven experience as a Ship Hull Fitter;
* experience in shipbuilding or ship repair is mandatory;
* ability to read and interpret shipbuilding drawings;
* experience with gas cutting, grinding and bevel preparation;
* experience fitting plates, stiffeners, frames and structural sections;
* tack welding skills (111 and/or 136) are an advantage;
* accuracy, responsibility and attention to detail;
* readiness to confirm qualification during a practical test in Klaipėda.

Documents Required:
- EU passport or valid Lithuanian residence permit;
- CV or a short description of previous work experience.

Every project has its own story.
For SKAILA UAB, the Misida & Misana project was a strong example of practical vessel modernization, technical coordination, and complex steel structure work in the marine industry.
From spring to autumn, our team took part in the modernization of two sister vessels — Misida and Misana. 📍 Klaipėda, Lithuania

The project scope included:
• extension of additional decks and side structures
• preparation and installation of foundations for electric turbines at the Western Shipyard
• fabrication, assembly, and installation of complex steel structures
• structural works aimed at improving vessel efficiency and reducing fuel consumption

Around 700–750 tons of various steel structures were installed on each vessel.
The project involved a team of 20–30 specialists working through different stages of the modernization process — from preparation and assembly to installation and final coordination on site.

Projects like this require not only skilled hands, but also planning, discipline, technical understanding, and close cooperation between teams.

The journey started at Posidonia 2026, one of the world’s leading maritime exhibitions.

The first hours at the exhibition have already set a great tone — reconnecting with familiar faces, meeting new industry contacts, and having conversations about collaboration opportunities.
