Keeping pace with the future of industrial robotics

Laimonas Juška, Chief Sales Officer at VMG Technics, and Mindaugas Eidėjus, Head of the R&D Group, recently attended the ABB Robotics European Value Provider Conference 2026 in Budapest, where ABB partners from across Europe exchanged knowledge and explored the latest developments in industrial robotics.

VMG Technics has held ABB Robotics Value Provider status in Lithuania since 2024. This recognition reflects our technical expertise, continuous specialist training and practical experience in integrating robotic solutions.

The conference highlighted the rapid development of AI, vision systems and advanced robotics software – technologies creating new opportunities to make manufacturing more flexible, precise and efficient.

How can the Nordic construction sector reduce its carbon footprint while responding to growing demand, rising costs and the need for faster project delivery?

These questions were at the centre of Forum Wood Building Nordic in Malmö, attended by Vytautas Tamašauskas, who leads VMG Technics’ production facilities, and Laimonas Juška, Chief Sales Officer at VMG Technics. The forum provided an opportunity to exchange insights with industry experts and both new and long-standing partners.

The presentations revealed a clear market need. The construction sector accounts for 22% of Sweden’s CO₂ emissions, while the expanding use of timber in projects such as data centres shows the growing potential of low-carbon construction. However, scaling timber prefabrication will require more than sustainable materials alone.

Many production processes still offer significant potential for automation and robotics. By improving productivity, precision and process consistency, these technologies can reduce manufacturing costs and shorten lead times – ultimately accelerating work on the construction site as well.

VMG Technics is already translating this potential into practice. Our recently completed project for Rietuva demonstrates how an integrated prefab production line combining automation and robotics can enable faster, more consistent and scalable manufacturing.

The opportunities identified across the Nordic market reflect a broader global shift: greater integration of automation and robotics can help scale timber construction, accelerate production and building processes, and reduce the industry’s environmental footprint.

Today, 63% of companies face talent shortages, with qualified engineers particularly needed in electrical engineering and automation. As industry becomes more technologically advanced, its competitiveness will increasingly depend on the ability to combine talent, investment and innovation.

Commenting on this topic in a recent LRT article, VMG Technics CEO Mantas Leknius emphasises that artificial intelligence will not replace engineers – but it will change how they work.

At VMG Technics, AI is already used for code development, testing and standardisation, computer vision-based quality control, system automation and equipment condition monitoring. By taking over repetitive tasks and helping to predict failures, these tools allow engineers to focus on complex problem-solving and the development of new technological solutions.

Building this capacity also requires stronger cooperation between business and universities, as well as an environment that encourages engineers to experiment and create.

Strong industry requires strong cooperation between business and the public sector.

Yesterday, VMG Technics welcomed a delegation led by Edvinas Grikšas, Minister of the Ekonomikos ir inovacijų ministerija of the Republic of Lithuania. The delegation also included Bronius Markauskas, Mayor of Klaipėda District, Ligita Girskienė, Member of the Lithuanian Parliament (Lietuvos Respublikos Seimas) and Chair of the Klaipėdos Marių bendruomenė Association, as well as representatives of national and local authorities.

During the visit, we presented our EUR 31 million R&D and innovation park – a hub where engineering expertise, research and advanced manufacturing capabilities come together to develop smart industrial solutions.

We also discussed the factors shaping industrial competitiveness: support for innovation and automation, access to skilled talent, infrastructure development and the need for an enabling business environment.

VMG Technics was represented by CEO Mantas Leknius, together with VMG Energy CEO Petras Leknius and Head of the Real Estate Department Diana Gedminčė.

Thank you to the Minister and the entire delegation for the open and constructive dialogue. Turning such discussions into practical decisions is essential for strengthening regional industry and Lithuania’s long-term competitiveness.

Technology is not here to replace people – it is here to help them work smarter, safer and more efficiently.

In an interview for DELFI.lt’s “Regionų verslai” series, VMG Technics CEO Mantas Leknius discusses the future of industry and one of the key barriers to automation: not the lack of technology, but the lack of knowledge about how to evaluate its true value.

Automation helps address labor shortages, improve workplace safety, increase productivity and strengthen long-term competitiveness. As Mantas highlights, technological progress also requires a cultural shift: we often resist change at first, but eventually recognize that technology is here to support people – not replace them.

Last week, VMG Technics hosted the third Lietuvos inžinerijos ir technologijų pramonės asociacija Linpra Finance Forum, bringing together industry professionals for an exchange of practical insights and experience.

During the event, Martynas Tolutis, Head of the Commercial Department at VMG Technics, presented our company’s activities, engineering capabilities and solutions for industrial businesses.

The programme also featured a practical session by Rūta Ūsaitė-Duonielienė on profitability analysis, identifying hidden costs and understanding where companies create – or lose – value.

The forum concluded with a tour of VMG Technics’ production facilities led by Vytautas Tamašauskas, Sales Manager at VMG Technics, giving participants a closer look at our engineering and manufacturing capabilities in practice.

VMG Technics featured in one of Europe’s leading industry publications 🌍

We’re proud to see VMG Technics featured in EUWID – one of Europe’s leading sources of industry intelligence.

The article explores UAB Rietuva’s entry into the prefabricated timber construction sector with the opening of its new €40.6 million plant in Akmenė. The facility will manufacture wall and ceiling elements for panel-based building renovation and prefabricated construction projects.

At the heart of the facility is a production line designed by VMG Technics. Through its PREFAB 360° approach, the company delivered the entire solution – from concept development and engineering to automation, robotics integration and turnkey implementation. ⚙️

With approximately 95% of the production process automated and an annual capacity of around 360,000 m², the facility brings industrial-scale manufacturing to prefabricated timber construction.

Combining robotics, precision engineering and advanced production technologies, the project demonstrates how highly automated manufacturing can support the growing demand for efficient and scalable timber construction solutions across Europe.

Today, VMG Technics is hosting the third Lietuvos inžinerijos ir technologijų pramonės asociacija Linpra Marketing Forum at our R&D centre, bringing together professionals to exchange insights on B2B branding and industrial business development.

Laimonas Juška, Chief Sales Officer at VMG Technics, presented a case study on the automated production line for prefabricated renovation panels developed by VMG Technics for UAB Rietuva in Akmenė.

The only line of its kind in the Baltics integrates 18 production cells, 13 robots and CNC machinery. Designed to operate 95% without human intervention, it can produce up to 350,000 m² of wall panels annually – enough for one five-storey building per day.

Andrius Gricius, Brand Manager at VMG Grupė, presented the strategic plan for leveraging this case study to enter new markets, attract new contracts and demonstrate VMG Technics’ capabilities to prospective clients.

Participants also joined a factory tour led by Vytautas Tamašauskas, Sales Manager at VMG Technics, and heard insights from guest speaker Inesa Budgine, Founder and Creative Director of Stand Up advertising agency, on the commercial value of strong B2B brands.
