“VMG Lignum” CEO Ramūnas Grudis: In the Australian market success is driven not by the lowest price, but by quality and reliability

The new EU–Australia trade agreement is creating even more stable export conditions for Lithuanian industrial companies. While reduced tariffs are often seen as the key change, “VMG Lignum” CEO Ramūnas Grudis emphasizes that the real value of this agreement lies not in pricing, but in clarity and stability for long-term trade.

In markets such as Australia, where competition with Asian manufacturers is intense, the decisive factors are product quality, certification, and supply reliability. These are exactly the elements that shape the competitive advantage of European companies, including “VMG Lignum”.

Happy to share a glimpse of Lithuania’s first panel-based renovation pilot project at Karmėlava – Balys Buračas Gymnasium.

The project shows how moving construction from site to factory helps deliver faster and more precise results, with over 80% of the work completed off-site.

This means less disruption on-site, so the school can continue its daily activities as usual during the renovation.

Another exhibition added to our list! 🌍

Aiming to strengthen our position in the international market and share our accumulated expertise, “VMG Lignum construction” team together with our partner “Strechy92 s.r.o.” participated in the largest timber construction conference in the Czech Republic – Drevostavby 2026. 🏗️

“During the event, we presented the LVL production process, its key advantages and the wide range of applications across different construction projects. Meanwhile, our partners shared their hands-on experience from projects implemented in the Czech Republic and Slovakia,” says Deividas Zdanavičius, Sales Manager at “VMG Lignum construction”.

Such conferences bring together the entire timber construction ecosystem – from designers and contractors to manufacturers and the academic community. 🤝

This year’s main topic – “Wooden constructions – the building system of the future” – perfectly reflects the direction of the industry. 🌱

We are proud that at such international platforms we not only gain valuable insights but also contribute to shaping the future of construction.

“VMG Lignum construction” crosses the Atlantic 🌍🚢

We’ve opened the door to the U.S. market! 🇺🇸 Already this year we plan to export around 30–36 thousand cubic meters of LVL beams – accounting for approximately one quarter of our annual production.

This step became possible after obtaining a special certification ✅ that ensures our products meet U.S. structural standards and allows us to become part of the market’s supply chain.

“This is our ticket into the market. The certification enables us to operate under U.S. standards and become part of its supply chain. Our technological capabilities meet the requirements of the U.S. market and our product characteristics align with those of leading manufacturers”, – says Ramunas Grudis, CEO of “VMG Lignum construction”.

Today the U.S. is the largest LVL market in the world 🌎, making this step not only an expansion but also a strategic direction for our future 📈. Our modern production line and technological readiness allow us to ensure the highest quality standards and compete on a global scale.

We believe that over time the U.S. will become one of our key export markets 🤝 while growing demand will open new opportunities for both production development and team growth 🚀

Minister of Environment visits Lithuania’s first panel-based renovation project

Yesterday, Lithuania’s Minister of Environment Kastytis Žuromskas and Kaunas District Mayor Valerijus Makūnas visited Balys Buračas Gymnasium in Karmėlava to review the progress of Lithuania’s first panel-based renovation project.

During the visit, the project team presented how the technology is being applied in practice and shared the progress achieved so far 🏗️

The Minister highlighted that the education process continues without interruption, as more than 80% of the work is carried out in the factory. This results in significantly less noise and dust on site, allowing the school to operate as usual throughout the renovation.

“Even during a renovation of this scale, it is important to see that daily activities can continue without disruption. Once completed, the project will deliver a substantially improved result, creating value for the school community and encouraging wider use of panel-based renovation in future projects,” said Lithuania’s Minister of Environment Kastytis Žuromskas.

The Karmėlava project is the first in Lithuania where a certified panel-based renovation system, developed by VMG Lignum, is being applied. The solution enables project delivery within 2–3 months. The pilot has now entered its third phase, with over 40% of works completed and completion planned for May.

The visit was also attended by project partners, including Head of Administration of Kaunas District Municipality Mantas Rikteris, CEO of Aplinkos projektų valdymo agentūra - Gvidas Dargužas, contractor Kaunesta, facade panel manufacturer and installer Ecodomus and its CEO Girmantas Juknys, VMG Lignum Systems Project Managers Tomas Gečys and Gediminas Meškauskas, as well as the school community.

Thanks to all partners and participants for their work and collaboration in moving this project forward!

The longevity of LVL structures starts with proper moisture protection 💧🚫

LVL products are regulated by the Eurocode, which defines structural requirements and safety factors for a minimum 50-year service life. Timber can be an exceptionally long-lasting construction material – when it is properly designed and protected.

“Wood performs best when moisture is controlled from the very beginning. Following Eurocode requirements and applying additional protection measures allows LVL structures to remain strong, stable, and reliable for decades,” explains Kristijonas Lotiukas, Chief Technologist at VMG Lignum construction.

That’s why we follow key moisture-control principles:

• Shape surfaces so water can drain away;
• Protect horizontal timber ends;
• Seal all joints;
• Elevate columns at least 300 mm above ground level;
• Add waterproofing to prevent rising moisture;
• Use v***r barriers to avoid condensation;
• Design roof overhangs to keep rain off the walls;
• Ensure ventilation gaps for natural drying.

By combining EU standards with proven moisture protection practices, we ensure long-term performance and consistent quality of our LVL products. 🌳

On March 5, the Prefab cluster gathered at the Ecodomus factory to discuss the future of panel-based renovation.🏗️

During the meeting, Justinas Bortkevičius, Head of VMG Lignum Systems, presented the VMG Lignum renovation panel system and introduced the Karmėlava Balys Buračas Gymnasium project as a practical example of its application.

⚙️The discussion also focused on system optimization and a strategy to reduce renovation panel costs by around 15–20%, helping make panel-based renovation more accessible for wider market adoption.

💡The next step is to see the first pilot projects successfully implemented in the Lithuanian market, demonstrating the practical benefits of panel-based renovation and allowing municipalities to evaluate the system as an additional alternative to existing renovation approaches.

🔹Beyond full panel-based renovation, the discussion also touched on another idea worth exploring – whether partial renovation solutions, focused primarily on improving building insulation, could allow projects to be implemented faster and at significantly lower cost.

VMG Lignum construction’s sustainability management system has been awarded the EcoVadis Bronze Medal!🥉

In just over five years of operations, we have established the core principles of sustainability management within the organization and have been steadily integrating them into our day-to-day business processes.

The EcoVadis assessment evaluates companies across four key areas – Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. Our result places us among the top ~35% of all companies assessed by EcoVadis globally, within a network of more than 130,000 organizations across 180+ countries 🌐

For us, this recognition confirms that the direction we have chosen is the right one and that the essential foundations of responsible business are already embedded in our organization.

At the same time, we see this achievement not as a destination, but as a maturity checkpoint and a starting point for further progress 🚀

In the coming years, we will continue to strengthen:
• data-driven ESG management;
• responsible and transparent supply chains;
• environmental and efficiency initiatives;
• transparency and accountability.

Our goal is to continuously increase the organization’s sustainability maturity while creating long-term value for our employees, partners, and society 🌍

A sincere thank you to the entire team who contributed to this achievement!
