🔬 Praėjusią savaitę RTO Lithuania dalyvavo „Ivy+ Career Day“ (Handshake) – virtualioje karjeros mugėje, subūrusioje 600+ dalyvių ir sujungusioje geriausių universitetų talentus su darbdaviais bei mokslinių tyrimų organizacijomis iš viso pasaulio.

Pirmą kartą kartu su RTO Lithuania prisistatė Lietuvos mokslinių tyrimų institutai, kviesdami tarptautinius mokslininkus ir inovacijų profesionalus kurti karjerą Lietuvoje: Fizinių ir technologijos mokslų centras, Lietuvos Energetikos Institutas, Lietuvos agrarinių ir miškų mokslų centras

We are delighted to welcome Monika Vilkienė as an Expert for Research Management and Administration at RTO Lithuania.

Monika brings valuable experience in research project coordination, administration, and support for international R&D collaboration. Her expertise strengthens our capacity to support researchers, innovation projects, and international partnerships across the Lithuanian research ecosystem.

At RTO Lithuania, we continue building a strong community of experts who help connect science, innovation, and industry, while supporting the participation of Lithuanian research organisations in European initiatives.

🔬 RTO Lithuania dalyvavo Fizinių ir technologijos mokslų centro (FTMC) metinėje mokslinėje konferencijoje – svarbiame renginyje, suburiančiame mokslininkus, politikos formuotojus ir inovacijų lyderius aptarti naujausių mokslo ir technologijų pasiekimų.

Šių metų konferencijoje daug dėmesio skirta Europai strategiškai svarbioms mokslinių tyrimų kryptims: gynybos technologijoms, kvantinėms technologijoms, pažangioms medžiagoms, lazerių mokslui, atsinaujinančiai energetikai ir klimato tyrimams.

Konferencijos metu RTO Lithuania pristatė tarpdisciplininių projektų, finansuotų RTO bendradarbiavimo iniciatyvomis, rezultatus. Šie projektai rodo, kaip bendradarbiavimas tarp lyderiaujančių Lietuvos mokslinių tyrimų institucijų – Fizinių ir technologijos mokslų centras, Lietuvos Energetikos Institutas ir Lietuvos agrarinių ir miškų mokslų centras – padeda kurti reikšmingus mokslinius sprendimus.

Pristatyti projektai:

• BioDenEta – hibridinių medžių klonų bioetanolio potencialo vertinimas, taikant pažangius dendrometrinius ir cheminius tyrimus (LEI & LAMMC).

• PLASTRO – mikroplastiko judėjimo augalų sistemose tyrimai naudojant mikrofluidinį modeliavimą (FTMC, LEI, LAMMC).

• ¹³C ir ¹⁵N izotopų metodai – biologinės azoto fiksacijos ir dirvožemio anglies kaupimo tyrimai, svarbūs klimatui išmaniajam žemės ūkiui ir maistinių medžiagų ciklų supratimui.

Didžiuojamės, kad RTO ekspertai konferencijoje pristatė savo mokslinius tyrimus, stiprindami ryšius tarp tyrėjų komandų.

Tokie renginiai kaip FTMC konferencija aiškiai parodo, kokia svarbi yra RTO tipo bendradarbiavimo sistema, leidžianti skirtingų sričių tyrėjams kartu spręsti sudėtingus iššūkius – nuo energetikos transformacijos iki kvantinių technologijų ar gynybos inovacijų.

Tarpdiscipliniškumą lengva girti – bet sunku įgyvendinti.
Tai reiškia išeiti iš savo laboratorijos, klausytis skirtingų kalbų ir kurti pasitikėjimą tarp skirtingų sričių mokslininkų. Būtent taip įvyko RTO NEXUS matchmaking sesijoje.

Renginyje susitiko RTO Lithuania tinklo narių mokslininkai: Fizinių ir technologijos mokslų centras (FTMC), Lietuvos Energetikos Institutasitutas (LEI), Lietuvos agrarinių ir miškų mokslų centras
(LAMMC).

NEXUS (lot. „ryšys“, „jungtis“) – yra būtent apie tai.
Apie jungtį tarp papildančių infrastruktūrų ir kompetencijų, kad stiprios idėjos galėtų sparčiau judėti: nuo bendrų pilotinių tyrimų → prie sprendimų → iki konkurencingų nacionalinių ir Europos horizontas paraiškų, kuriančių visuomeninę ir ekonominę vertę.
Renginio akcentai:
• Sveikinimo žodis – dr. Andrius Tamošiūnas, LEI direktoriaus pavaduotojas

📣 We’re pleased to welcome Šarūnas Varnagiris to RTO Lithuania (RTOLithuania.com) as an Expert on Hydrogen Energy Technologies.

Šarūnas is the Head of the Hydrogen Energy Technologies Center at the Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI). He brings strong research expertise and a solid track record in energy and hydrogen related topics, including work on green hydrogen production and CO2-free hydrogen production.

His leadership and experience will strengthen our expert network and support the development of high impact collaborations across Lithuania and Europe.

Today, we mark an important transition within the RTO Lithuania expert representation framework.

His contribution to strategic discussions, particularly within the EARTO (https://www.earto.eu/) framework, has strengthened our voice in European R&D&I policy dialogue and reinforced our position as a trusted partner in the international research community.

➡️ RTO Lithuania at the LAMMC National Scientific Conference: Interdisciplinary Research in Action

Last week, the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (LAMMC) hosted a national scientific conference that attracted strong interest from researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and farmers, focusing on sustainable soil management, climate-smart agriculture, and applied environmental research.

For the first time, RTO Lithuania participated not only by presenting the Association’s mission and activities, but together with interdisciplinary research teams implementing projects funded through RTO internal calls. This joint presence clearly demonstrated the added value of RTO Lithuania as a national research network connecting institutions, disciplines, and real-world challenges.

🔬 RTO-funded interdisciplinary projects presented during the poster session:

• PACE – Drone-based remote detection of gas leaks, integrating LEI modelling expertise, LAMMC field experimentation, and FTMC sensor technologies.
• BioDenEta – Assessment of bioethanol potential of hybrid tree clones through advanced dendrometric and chemical analysis (LEI & LAMMC).
• PLASTRO – Investigation of microplastics transport in plant systems using microfluidic modelling (FTMC, LEI, LAMMC).
• ¹³C and ¹⁵N isotope methods – Research on biological nitrogen fixation and soil carbon sequestration, contributing to climate-smart agriculture and nutrient cycling insights.

Through this participation, RTO Lithuania strengthened dialogue between science, practice, and policy, highlighting how interdisciplinary research can translate scientific knowledge into solutions for environmental sustainability, agriculture, and climate challenges.

↔️ Choosing the challenging path often leads to the most meaningful impact - and even when it is not easy, there is always a way forward.

👩‍🔬 This is exactly the path taken by our team member, Dr Dovilė Čibiraitė-Lukenskienė. After studying Physics and Management of Modern Technologies at Vilnius University and completing her PhD in Germany on a Marie Curie scholarship at Goethe University Frankfurt, she gained experience at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics before choosing to return to Lithuania and continue building her scienitific work and career here.

At RTO Lithuania, we are proud to have Dovilė in our team - bringing international experience back to Lithuania and strengthening our national science and innovation ecosystem.

👏 We are pleased to share that Dr Rasa Pauliukaitė, a chemist at the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC) and an expert within the RTO Lithuania network, has been appointed Chair of the Board of the Futuria Scientia Association.

Dr Pauliukaitė represents Lithuania also in the EARTO MedTech Working Group, contributing to European discussions on emerging healthcare technologies and research and innovation policy. Her work has also been recognised nationally through a nomination for the Global Lithuania Awards 2021, for introducing a new research direction in advanced electrochemical biosensors to Lithuania.

We value the leadership of such high-level experts in our network and wish her every success in this new role.
