In 2019, Odysseus Space was founded with a clear mission - to pave the way for a new era in space communication. The journey began as our team of experts provided consultancy support for various smal

l-scale missions. Motivated by the mission's innovative technology, the founders envisioned a groundbreaking solution for space- to-ground laser communication. Odysseus Space emerged in Luxembourg, propelled by the win of the ESA Space Resources Award. The seeds of our vision sprouted as we secured the inaugural ESA contract, embarking on the odyssey of Cyclops™ development. As the constellations aligned, we consolidated our business plan and design for Cyclops™, with customers, setting the stage for a revolutionary leap in space data communication. In 2021, a second ESA contract was signed for the development of our flagship product, Cyclops™. Simultaneously, an agreement unfolded to integrate Cyclops™ Optical Ground Stations into a prominent Ground Stations Network, solidifying our presence in the interconnected cosmos. Since then, ODYSSEUS has continued to make significant strides. Their Cyclops™ solution has gained interest from multiple customers eager to utilize its capabilities once demonstrated. With an unwavering commitment to innovation, ODYSSEUS Space remains dedicated to transforming space communication and creating a brighter future for all.

At , we’re proud to have a dynamic and passionate team that blends the fresh energy of a start-up with deep expertise in space, lasers, and optics 🚀🛰️

Today, we’re excited to introduce 冠瑜朱 (Vernal Chu), our Optical Communication Engineer!

Driven by curiosity about space technology, Vernal began his journey at the National Chiao Tung University, where he accomplished a Master's in Science diploma, and during which he built Taiwan’s first optical ground station📡

In February 2024, he joined us as a Systems Engineering Department intern, bringing not just exceptional technical skills, but also one more competitive player at our foosball table! 🤗

With determination and enthusiasm, Vernal transitioned from intern to full-time engineer. He especially values Odysseus’ collaborative work environment and the chance to tackle meaningful technical challenges, which have deepened his expertise in satellite laser communications and systems engineering 🙌🌌

Beyond the lab, Vernal has a creative side. He loves visiting Ocean Park to photograph adorable animals🐧📸

and CONTEC join forces to expand global optical downlink capabilities - a major step forward in making high-speed space-to-ground optical communications accessible for commercial satellite operators 🚀

Through a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), this partnership includes:

📡 The development of an integrated optical ground segment, combining both companies’ technologies and infrastructure to broaden access to high-capacity downlink services.

🚀 Technical integration, joint service development, and coordinated commercial efforts to make optical communications more accessible to satellite operators worldwide.

Odysseus will deploy its Cyclops™ Laser Communication solution and SDA-compatible Optical Ground Station network by 2026, paving the way for secure, high-speed data downlink of up to 1TB/day.

Combined together with CONTEC’s own network of optical ground stations, we're teaming up to enable more secure, scalable, and accessible optical communication for satellite operators worldwide 🛰️🤝

Space secures its third European Defence Fund contract within a year! 🚀

We’re proud to join Project LUCID (Lunar and Cislunar Identification and Detection) as one of only 62 selected projects from 625 proposals under the EDF 2024 Call for Proposals, part of the EU’s €950M initiative to boost collaborative defence innovation. Our partners on this project are: Aldoria, ATLAR Innovation, and LMO.

🔹 With this third award, Odysseus Space has now secured €3.7M in EDF-funded projects in under 12 months.

🔹 In Project LUCID, we’ll contribute our expertise in direct-to-Earth laser communications from cislunar orbit - a key enabler for secure, high-throughput data transfer from deep space.

🔹 We'll also support the design of an integrated architecture combining RF, passive optical, and laser links to improve the detection and tracking of space-based threats beyond geostationary orbit.

This milestone reflects our growing role in supporting European defence and space sovereignty, and reinforces our long-term vision: lightspeed connectivity to all human assets across the solar system 🌍🌌

Our team has achieved a major step forward in developing our Pointing, Acquisition, and Tracking (PAT) subsystem – the successful Fine-Tracking (FT) control loop functional demonstration! 🚀🛰️

The integrated design of the PAT subsystem allows Cyclops-DTE, our Laser Communication Terminal, to be seamlessly incorporated into any satellite platform, managing the entire pointing process, and leaving our customers with no additional steps 🤝

The PAT subsystem comprises a Coarse Pointing Assembly that directs the system toward our Optical Ground Station (Cyclops-GT), along with the FT control loop that actively corrects disturbances of the spacecraft, to ensure precise pointing.

📹 See how our system (red cross) actively corrects the disturbances (blue point) emulated in the lab using data from previous space missions.

📹 Check out how we used the FT control loop to precisely shape the input light beam and draw the Odysseus logo.
