👾 Drawing from his experience as a young entrepreneur in the video game industry, Nicolas shared how his journey from software to space continues to inform our work at Space Cargo Unlimited.

More than ever, software is shaping the future of space with digital transformation, data, and AI redefining how space systems are designed, built, and operated.

That's what brought us to Trieste this week, alongside Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI) and Thales Alenia Space for a workshop this week on how to make microgravity an operational environment for research and industry.

During the keynote sessions, our CEO Nicolas Gaume framed it clearly: without reliable access, consistent flight cadence, and dependable payload return, microgravity research remains niche. Barbara Negri (ASI) and Annemaria Piras (Thales Alenia Space Italia) reinforced Italy's pivotal role in securing and expanding this capability for Europe.

The following panel —moderated by Anilkumar Dave and featuring our CSO Michael Lebert, Prof. Emanuele Buratti (ICGEB & University of Trieste), and Daniele Pavarin (T4i) brought the discussion back to practice: how do you move from one-off experiments to iterative R&D cycles? The answer: continuous mission opportunities. That's what enables real testing, validation, and scale-up across life sciences, materials development, and manufacturing. 🧬🌍🔬

We were honored to meet Regional Minister Alessia Rosolen, whose remarks underscored the region's commitment to strengthening the space ecosystem and positioning Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia as a forward-looking hub for aerospace and cross-sector innovation.

𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.

That was the focus of our workshop this week at ESA BIC Turin , in collaboration with I3P - Innovative Companies Incubator of Politecnico Torino.

The session was designed as a practical introduction to how microgravity can strengthen R&D, particularly for startups and companies within the Torino ecosystem.

We explored:

🛰️ How microgravity can accelerate technology development and de-risk hardware.

🔬 What it takes to move from a lab concept to a flight-ready payload.

🚀 How Space Cargo Unlimited provides the infrastructure and repeatable mission access that enables teams to validate and scale their systems.

Our CEO, Nicolas Gaume, explained why industrialising microgravity requires moving from one-off demonstrations to consistent access and operational maturity.

Our CRO, Mathieu Goudot, then walked through the concrete steps companies can take today to fly their systems on our 2026–2027 mission roadmap.

We were genuinely humbled by the turnout and by the number of thoughtful, technical questions from founders and engineers looking to better understand the opportunities microgravity offers.

These were the words of our Strategy and Alliances lead, Anilkumar Dave, during the panel “𝗘𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗦𝗠𝗘𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀’ 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁” at the European Space Conference this week.

The discussion brought together leaders from across Europe’s New Space ecosystem, including ATMOS Space Cargo, ION-X, Dcubed, and SPHERICAL, to explore how space SMEs are not only developing disruptive technologies — but actively creating new markets.

Very few terrestrial industries today have access to microgravity, yet sectors such as life sciences, materials, and advanced manufacturing stand to benefit significantly. Raising awareness beyond the space sector is key to unlocking this untapped market.

🚀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱, 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆
To make microgravity commercially viable, Europe must focus on faster delivery, repeatable flight opportunities, and customer-centric services—learning from the US where relevant, while building distinctly European strengths.

Mission Order Signed. Europe's First Commercial In-Space Manufacturing Program Begins 2026.

Today, Space Cargo Unlimited and ATMOS Space Cargo announce the first flight of a fully private, seven-mission program to establish independent microgravity access and in-space manufacturing capacity for Europe.

This mission marks the first flight of BentoBox, our first-generation space factory, flying aboard the PHOENIX 2 Orbital Transfer and Return Vehicle (OTRV). BentoBox will operate a suite of partner payloads during a multi-week mission in Low Earth Orbit before planned re-entry and recovery near Santa Maria in the Azores, Portugal.

By combining the commercial-ready operations of BentoBox with the reusable return infrastructure of PHOENIX 2, we're demonstrating how two innovative companies can deliver a new operational model for routine, station-independent access to and from orbit.

This collaboration reflects our shared vision of building a sovereign, circular, and accessible European space ecosystem for the post-ISS era, where science and industry create real value for Earth.
