When a disaster strikes, crisis teams face two problems at once: the infrastructure they rely on for communication goes down, and the amount of information they need to manage goes up. 🌩️

Developed under ESA - European Space Agency - ESA’s Civil Security from Space programme, SAFEPLACE is a European project exploring how space-enabled capabilities can support crisis management and emergency response. Phase 1 demonstration took place at Technoport SA in Foetz, running a live simulation based on the July 2021 floods.

Our contribution addressed both challenges:

📡 When terrestrial networks went down, our NoSaCo satellite terminal allowed connectivity restablishment. First responders on the ground stayed online through dual satellite links that operate independently of terrestrial infrastructure.

🗺️ With our DISP platform, we supported operational crisis management by collecting and presenting field information including personnel locations, resources and status, helping crisis teams coordinate operations and make informed decisions.

What does a summer internship at HITEC really look like?

From smart mobility to space technology, it’s all about turning ideas into real-world projects!

This summer, Dinis Viana Batista and Adrien Rudziak joined our teams, bringing fresh perspectives, curiosity and plenty of motivation.

🚦 Dinis Viana Batista | Smart Mobility & Traffic Management
An engineering student at Polytech Nancy, Dinis spent four months working on the Saferoute-6G project, tackling a very practical challenge: how can technology help detect blocked roads and improve traffic monitoring?

His mission focused on developing a system to locate and track connected devices on the move, while enhancing a geospatial database for real-time monitoring.

The result? A prototype combining:
A smartphone application
A monitoring dashboard
A traffic sign connected to a smart sensor

📡 Adrien Rudziak | Space Technologies
Coming from IPSA, école d’ingénieurs de l’air et de l’espace, Adrien took on a different kind of engineering challenge during his one-month internship.

His mission? Modifying an existing 3D model of HITEC’s FM06 antenna to make it move and to design the next movable 3D models of LM09 HITEC antennas.
A hands-on opportunity to put his engineering skills into practice and to have the chance to also participate to site intervention on real antennas.

Two students. Two different challenges. One shared experience: putting knowledge into practice, exploring new technologies and learning alongside our teams.

En situation de crise, chaque minute compte.

La plateforme Electronic Travel Advisory (eTA) permet au personnel des Nations unies de recevoir des alertes, de confirmer qu’il est en sécurité et de rester connecté. Elle permet également aux équipes de sécurité de l’ONU d’identifier les personnes ayant besoin d’aide et leur localisation.

L’impact sur le terrain :

🇻🇪 Venezuela : l’ensemble du personnel de l’ONU a pu être recensé en moins d’une heure après un séisme.

🇺🇦🇸🇩 Ukraine et Soudan : la plateforme a facilité le recensement et l’évacuation sécurisée de centaines de collaborateurs des Nations unies.

🇭🇹 Haïti : la géolocalisation a aidé les équipes de sécurité à intervenir lors d’incidents complexes.

Avec plus de 150 000 installations dans 200 zones désignées, eTA continue d’évoluer grâce au soutien de longue date du gouvernement luxembourgeois 🇱🇺 et à notre contribution chez HITEC Luxembourg.

La sécurité est indispensable à l’accomplissement des missions des Nations unies. Fiers de contribuer à cet effort collectif !

Earlier this week, technology and diplomacy met in Mamer. 🇯🇵🤝🇱🇺

We had the honour of welcoming H.E. Mr. Mamoru Nomura, Ambassador of Japan, to Luxembourg, alongside First Secretary Mr. Shumpeita Furuhashi and Ms. Greta Szendrei to our headquarters.

Our CEO Philippe Osch walked the delegation through our labs and facilities, sharing the projects our teams are working on and the technologies HITEC has been developing for over 40 years.

Beyond the tour, the conversation turned to something that matters to us: how our work in ground segment infrastructure, optical communications and high precision testing instruments could help build stronger economic ties between Japan and Luxembourg.

Exchanges like this reflect what drives us every single day: bringing together people and innovation to create lasting solutions that make an impact, from Luxembourg to the world.

We spent this year building ground infrastructure for Europe’s space future. This week, two members of our space team will meet others willing to do the same at the Industry Space Days 2026 on September 16 and 17! 🇳🇱

We’re genuinely excited about this one. Florence Dyer and Jérémy LAUMESFELT are heading to Noordwijk, and they’re going with a lot to talk about.

Florence, as Project Engineer for Ground Segment, and Jérémy, as Modelling & Simulation Engineer, are both already involved in ESA collaborations. Between the two of them, you get a pretty complete picture of how HITEC approaches ground segment challenges: from the project side to the physics of it.

And the timing couldn’t be better. Our OGS BELUCA 080 is under commissioning, developed under the INT-UQKD initiative with Starion, SpeQtral and ESA - European Space Agency. We are also continuing the extension of our portfolio solution and especially our complete ground solutions with tri-band feed. There’s a lot happening at HITEC right now, and ISD is exactly the kind of place where those conversations belong.

Some milestones are definitely worth the long flight! 🇹🇭

Last week, four of us landed in Bangkok for Recovered Carbon Black Asia 2026 (co-located with Sustainability in Tires). We’re used to the European edition every year, but taking part in the Asian event for the very first time was a huge step for us.

Over two days, we caught up with 200+ professionals across the entire rCB value chain. Everyone is after the same thing right now: making recovered carbon black a reliable material the industry can trust for the long run. And that reliability comes down to one thing: consistent quality from batch to batch. To show how we tackle this challenge, we brought our IPHT (Individual Pellet Hardness Tester) along with us for live demo on site.

Beyond the conference sessions, it was a fantastic chance to spend real time with our local clients and partners, CG Engineering in Thailand and Highest Instruments in China. Great energy and teamwork all around with Rodolphe MARTIN, Nicolas Guillon, Charlie Cheung and Mart Suthinan Thanintranon on ground! 👏

The dynamism, technical innovation, and sustainability ambitions we saw in Bangkok confirm that the Asian rCB market is moving fast, and we are fully committed to driving this progress for the long run. ♻️
