When identity verification relies on multiple tools, more signals do not automatically mean better decisions.

Fragmented data can make it harder to connect the evidence, understand the full context, and spot risk early.

In his latest article, Henry Patishman, Executive VP, Identity Verification solutions at Regula, looks at where identity signal fragmentation adds resilience — and where it creates new vulnerabilities.

Regula joined West Africa Border Security Week 2026 in Accra, Ghana, on August 12–13.

Oskars Prieditis and Artsem Makarevich represented our team. They met with border, immigration, and law enforcement professionals from across the region.

At our booth, visitors explored the document authenticity verification device Regula 4205D and video spectral comparator Regula 4306MS. We also showcased the compact document examiner Regula 1031, document reader Regula 70X4M, and more.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and connected with our team.

Traditional authentication factors may not always be enough to confirm that the right person is logging in.

In his new article, Andrey Terekhin, Head of Product at Regula, explores:
• Why face biometrics is a practical choice for MFA
• How face-based authentication works in real-life user journeys
• What businesses need to consider before implementation

When would you add biometric MFA to your authentication flow?

FIPS 140-3 modernization should be treated as more than a cryptographic upgrade.

In a new Forbes Technology Council article, industry leaders share how organizations can meet evolving security requirements without slowing product development and innovation.

“A common mistake is treating FIPS 140-3 as a pure crypto swap rather than an identity-anchored trust upgrade. Teams often overlook how modules interact with identity, keys, and access flows. To keep innovation moving, leaders should bake IDV into the compliance path so verified identities, keys, and roles streamline approvals instead of slowing delivery.” — Henry Patishman, Executive Vice President, Identity Verification Solutions at Regula

The Brazilian Federal Police has modernized part of its nationwide forensic examination infrastructure with the latest generation of Regula technologies. The upgrade supports investigations involving forged identity documents and counterfeit banknotes.

As part of the project, dual-video spectral comparators, Regula 4308, are being deployed across the Federal Police laboratory network, including the National Institute of Criminalistics in Brasília and the central laboratory in Rio de Janeiro.

The new systems give forensic experts access to:
• high-resolution imaging and magnification of up to 320x
• more than 40 light sources
• embedded high-resolution spectrometer
• 3D visualization
• hyperspectral image analysis
• a wide field of view for analyzing complete A4 documents
• unified examination and reporting workflows in Regula Forensic Studio

The modernization builds on more than a decade of cooperation between Regula and the Brazilian Federal Police. It also supports consistent examination standards across laboratories nationwide — an increasingly important requirement as document fraud techniques become more sophisticated.

Brazilian identity documents contain data fields that many international verification systems may not expect.

One example is the inclusion of the holder’s parents’ names, a detail rarely found in identity documents from other countries. Brazilian IDs also contain the CPF, an 11-digit number used across banking, taxation, property transactions, and online services.

What does accurate processing require in such a distinctive document ecosystem?

Cloud or on-premises?

In identity verification, this decision affects far more than deployment speed. It can shape your data security, compliance posture, operating costs, and ability to respond to emerging fraud.

And the most familiar option may not be the best fit for your business.

Before choosing a deployment model, explore the trade-offs that often surface only after implementation.

Read the full comparison — and find out which approach matches your priorities: https://regulaforensics.com/blog/cloud-vs-on-premises-identity-verification/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=post&utm_content=08072026

How can companies extend the life of their hardware without compromising security?

In the latest Forbes Technology Council article, "How To Build A Smarter, Safer Hardware Lifecycle Strategy," industry experts argue that hardware decisions should be based on security, performance, and actual condition, rather than arbitrary replacement schedules.

"Companies should rethink the habit of retiring hardware on a purely time‑based cycle. Frequent refreshes often discard devices that are still secure and fully functional. Instead, use IDV‑anchored attestation to verify the device’s integrity, provenance, and configuration. When identity and trust checks prove a device is uncompromised, it can safely stay in service longer, cutting waste without increasing risk." — Henry Patishman, Executive Vice President, Identity Verification Solutions at Regula.

Together, the contributors’ perspectives point to a more sustainable approach: assess, verify, and reuse hardware whenever its security and reliability can be demonstrated.

Drawing on his experience examining travel documents at Istanbul Airport, Umut Ataseven, a Travel Documents & Profiling Specialist, has seen how much can depend on the physical examination of a document.

At Istanbul Airport, document checks often had to be completed in just 15–30 seconds. Yet small details could determine whether a passenger continued their journey or the document was escalated for further examination.

Loose stitching, altered surfaces, or damaged paper fibers may reveal substitutions and modifications that electronic checks alone cannot explain.

In this guest article, Umut Ataseven shares field observations from Istanbul Airport and explains why light, magnification, touch, and examiner expertise still matter.

Today, Regula introduces a new scorecard assessing whether the financial services sector is ready for the rise of AI-enabled fraud wherever identity verification is used — from onboarding to high-risk account activity.

The findings position financial institutions as the testing ground for AI-enabled identity fraud: the sector reports both the highest exposure and the strongest readiness across visibility, verification capability, and audit evidence.

What financial services are experiencing today may offer an early view of what other industries will face next.
