Chilean IDs can be surprisingly difficult to process at scale.

Document variations, language specifics, reflective surfaces, and inconsistencies in personal data can all affect OCR accuracy and increase friction, exceptions, and manual reviews during onboarding.

Our latest article explains the key challenges behind Chilean ID verification and what businesses should consider when building scalable verification flows.

What happens when financial systems can no longer assume there’s a human behind every action?

AI agents can open accounts, move money, and interact with financial systems autonomously. But who verifies the person behind the action?

Digital identity now has a human problem.

In the financial sector, identity checks were designed around a different assumption: one verification event per user, one session. That model no longer works in AI-driven ecosystems.

In an interview with PYMNTS.com: What's Next in Payments, Henry Patishman, Executive Vice President, Identity Verification Solutions at Regula, explains why identity verification must evolve into continuous identity governance.

How should financial institutions balance automation and accountability?

One of the most interesting KYC shifts right now is happening in… jewelry stores. Turkey is tightening AML rules for high-value gold and jewelry purchases.

For transactions above certain thresholds (around ₺185,000 — roughly $4,000), jewelers may now need to:
• verify customer IDs
• store transaction records
• monitor suspicious activity
• reject unidentified buyers

In other words, some jewelry stores are starting to operate more like financial institutions.

Why is Turkey doing this? Partly because of pressure from FATF, the global anti-money laundering watchdog.

Partly because gold has long operated as a parallel financial system:
• a savings instrument
• a settlement mechanism
• a hedge during currency volatility
• and a major shadow economy channel

And that’s the bigger story here: KYC is quietly leaving the banking sector.

The same identity assurance logic is spreading into crypto, luxury retail, marketplaces, real estate, and other high-value transactions.

Verification is becoming attached not to the institution, but to the transaction itself.

Modern biometric attacks already affect remote identity verification across industries. Deepfakes, AI-generated identities, and injection attacks continue to challenge onboarding and authentication processes.

Together with IAATI, Regula’s Online Master Series will explore how biometric systems are attacked in real-world scenarios, which methods fraudsters use today, and what security teams should prepare for next.

We’ll also discuss the automotive sector, where identity verification, onboarding, access control, and fraud prevention increasingly operate within the same ecosystem.

Processing Advance Passenger Information (API) shouldn’t create queues.

But many airlines still struggle with slow manual checks, fragmented systems, and growing compliance pressure.

API helps authorities review passenger information before arrival and speed up border procedures.

Our new blog explores how airlines can improve API workflows with automated document verification and smarter data capture.

Fast onboarding starts with optical character recognition (OCR). So do many hidden verification errors.

Consider this:
• Non-Latin scripts (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese) are among the hardest for OCR to process accurately.
• Variations in document layouts and multilingual fields make consistent data extraction difficult.
• Even small inconsistencies across OCR, Machine Readable Zone (MRZ), and user input can break verification flows.

And that’s before factoring in image quality, document variations, and lookalike characters — all of which directly impact OCR accuracy.

OCR does more than speed up identity verification. It's what makes the whole thing reliable for the following checks.

Bank-fintech partnerships can open the door with a strong pilot, but lasting impact depends on what happens next: clear ownership, scalable operations, and compliance planning from the start.

Henry Patishman, Executive Vice President, Identity Verification Solutions at Regula, shared his perspective in Forbes Technology Council:
“To successfully scale, bank-fintech partnerships must have a clear delineation of responsibility across all aspects of the engagement. This includes business (sales, marketing, operations, and so on), technology, and most importantly, compliance. Often, and rightfully so, the compliance burden is reduced for pilots, but it must be planned for and executed for post-pilot scale.”

Two recent breaches highlight a growing risk: static identity data — names, ID numbers, SSN number, dates of birth — can no longer be trusted on their own.

The France Titres, the government agency responsible for issuing official documents, reported an incident that exposed between 12 and 18 million data records. The Eurail breach affected over 300,000 travelers, with passport data reportedly circulating on the dark web.

When real user data becomes widely available, fraudsters can pass checks using legitimate details. Knowing someone’s data is no longer proof of identity.

Organizations need to move beyond static data, combining document authentication with biometrics and liveness, and factoring in session context and behavioral signals.

Breaches like these undermine outdated identity models.

Verifying mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs) is challenging in a zero-trust world.

As adoption grows across the US and globally, many organizations still rely on device-side checks — despite the risks. Compromised environments, rooted phones, or tampered apps can interfere with identity data before it reaches backend systems, creating a gap in trust.

To address this, Regula has introduced server-side verification of mDLs (ISO/IEC 18013-5) in the latest update of its Document Reader SDK.

With this capability, verification shifts to a controlled backend environment:
• Validation is performed server-side
• Data captured on-device is securely reprocessed
• Decisions rely on authentic, untampered data—not just client-side inputs

As digital IDs scale, backend verification is becoming essential for fraud prevention and compliance.

Age verification is becoming a core gaming platform requirement.

From Roblox restricting chat access to PlayStation and Xbox rolling out age checks, the shift is clear: regulators expect platforms to prove real user age.

But implementing age verification goes beyond compliance — it requires making the right architectural decisions:
• Where does age assurance actually matter?
• Which methods strike the balance between accuracy and UX?
• How do you avoid friction while staying audit-ready?

Gaming platforms need to rethink age verification as part of trust and safety infrastructure.

If you’re building or scaling a gaming platform, this article is worth a closer look: https://regulaforensics.com/blog/age-verification-for-gaming-platforms/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=post&utm_content=05042026
